March is National Women’s History Month

You know you want to do something to celebrate the theme of the month, but finding the time to prepare one more thing is overwhelming. Don’t worry — we’ve got you covered.

Our goal is to simplify your life by creating grab n’ go templates filled with engaging resources and ideas for lessons and units. Mindful of the circumstances in which schools are operating these days, there are resources in all of our templates for both distance and in-person learning.

For National Women’s History Month, we’ve focused on the announced theme: an extended celebration of the anniversary of women’s suffrage. At the top of the newsletter are resources that explain the meaning of the word suffrage (with a funny song from Mary Poppins where Mrs. Banks sings about being a suffragette). The fight for the right of women to vote is closely linked to the Abolitionist movement, and we’ve got an explanation of that, too — short form and long form. Then there’s a cool article of little known facts about the suffrage movement.

Black women were at the forefront of fighting for the right to vote, but their story is largely unknown. The template has a great video that introduces some of the heroines of the movement. This is followed by two sets of resources for units to teach, and finally a link to an organization that encourages students to volunteer in ensuring that every American citizen has access to voting.
