FRESHMEN ACADEMY INFORMATION
Greetings Parents and Students!
I hope the first full week of school went well for everyone. In an effort to assist students transitioning into high school, Norman High School’s Freshman Academy has created a place where freshmen can come together and experience a gradual release into high school. The goal is to offer a homebase for students, in which they have access to their teachers, counselor, and principal for any needed support throughout the day, while still connecting with upperclassmen and experiencing all that Norman High School has to offer.
NHS LINK CREW PROGRAM
The Link Crew program at Norman High School is all about helping our Freshmen students transition to high school. Link Crew leaders are Junior and Senior students who apply and interview to join the leadership class. With training and guidance from their teachers, they spend the rest of the year mentoring our Norman High Freshmen, helping them adjust to high school, and become ingrained in our school community. Link Crew members assist Freshmen by exposing them to school clubs and activities, teaching them school spirit, and checking in on them socially throughout the year.
STRETCH
Students and parents, please be aware that STRETCH is a 20 minute period, from 8:35-8:55, in the daily school schedule that is allotted for students to meet with teachers for tutoring or additional support when needed. Teachers are available for tutoring during STRETCH every Monday through Thursday.
There are so many events, activities and constant learning happening at NHS. If we can be of assistance please let us know.
Sincerely,
Nadia DeKoch
Freshman Academy Principal
Norman High School

SAFETY FIRST
See something? Hear Something? Say Something!
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. The public can help keep schools safe by reporting any suspicious or unusual activity. If your child is concerned about something they saw or heard at school, help them report information. Reinforce the “see something, say something” approach. **Immediately call Norman Crimestoppers at 405-366-STOP or submit a tip online at www.p3tips.com/1323 and contact the school principal to anonymously report abuse, bullying, drugs, guns, suicide risks, threats and more. Also, download the free P3 Tips app on your Apple or Android device. Click here to learn more about See Something. Say Something. Victims of gender discrimination or sexual misconduct are encouraged to file a TITLE IX report. Call (405) 447-6599 to report an incident. If you suspect that a child has been abused or neglected, call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services at 1-800-522-3511.
UPDATE: Student Entry
This week - ALL Students dropped off by a parent will enter through our College and Career Entrance at the West end of our front parking lot. Bus riders will enter through the 100 hall as usual.
If you DO NOT have an ID you must immediately go get one near the college and career area.
The College and Career doors and the 100 hall doors will lock at 9:00 along with ALL other outside doors. Key pad access and gate access for students will not be available this week. All students will need to come through the front of the school, and if after the tardy bell, students must enter through the main doors and go to student services for a tardy pass.
ATTENTION: ALL students and staff at NHS must wear an ID
School safety plays a crucial role in youth development and academic success. Students who feel safe at school tend to have better emotional health and overall a feeling of connection. This year, in an effort to support both safety and connectedness, we will require every student to wear a visible ID above the waist during the school day and while on the Norman High School campus. A school ID will help us easily identify enrolled students from those who aren’t or from those who may be from another campus. Ensuring safety for ALL students, staff and visitors is a top priority at Norman High School.
We will give each student one ID. We will also have one backup ID (free) available for them in the textbook room. After the second free ID, if a student arrives at school without an ID, they will be escorted to get another ID for $5. If the student doesn't have the $5, it will be charged to their account. Students will not be allowed to travel in our building or on our campus without an ID. Please know that providing a safe and secure learning environment is our #1 focus at Norman High and we believe our enhanced security measures will prove to be invaluable.
STUDENT PARKING
This link will take students to intouch receipting for credit card payments (Login is the parent login for incampus), when paying this way, we will need to see a picture/copy of the receipt to verify that it was paid before giving out the parking pass. If students do not pay through intouch they can come to the office to pay via cash, check or credit card with the financial secretary (Mrs. Summerville). She is located in the main office and will give out parking passes. Parking passes are $10
NOW open Tuesday - Thursday ! EVERYTHING is Free

STOPFINDER
Transfinder Corporation is now offering the Stopfinder application for your Android or iPhone devices. This application will enable you to set up GeoAlerts so you can receive notifications when the school bus has arrived at your student’s morning stop, arrived at school, left school, and arrived at your student’s afternoon stop.
I would highly recommend you visit the normanpublicschools.org web page and click on the Transportation tab, then scroll down the right side where you will see the STOPFINDER section, and click on WATCH VIDEO, and a three-minute instructional video will explain everything.
You will receive an invitation from Transfinder, via email to activate your subscription on 08/12/2022. Please make sure that your email in Infinite Campus is correct. Email is the only way to get your invitation to this app. The STOPFINDER app is available for download at the Google Play Store or Apple Store. At first, you will only view your student's bus information, after a few days will start receiving the GEO Alerts from the bus.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need your invitation resent, do not contact your school, instead, please contact Transportation Services at 405-366-5965
