❄️ Hello Owyhee Families! Happy December! ❄️
A Message From Our Principal
Dear Owyhee Families,
Whoa, can you believe we are entering the last month of 2023? Our students and staff returned from Autumn break refreshed, and are already working hard to finish out the first semester strong. The next three weeks, students will be working on completing assignments, taking benchmark assessments to see how they are progressing along, and preforming some beautiful music performances for all of us to enjoy. Make sure to see the calendar dates below for upcoming performances.
The PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) Team and I want to take a moment and thank our families and the community for the generous donation during our Turkey Trot. Our students were able to raise just over $2,500 to support the student incentive program here at Owyhee.
As the temperatures continue to drop, please encourage your child to come to school with appropriate cold weather attire to be outside in the cooler weather (coat, hat, gloves, boots). As a staff, we will use our best judgment to decide whether to allow our students outdoors for activities and recess when the temperatures dictate such a decision. Historically, our district has used 20°F as a baseline for making this determination, but we will take into account the age of students and the wind chill factor in reaching our decision.
In the event of a school closure due to winter weather, our district will communicate to the local radio and television stations to spread the word. Our district will also email parents, send a text message to parents, and post closure information on our district's website www.boiseschools.org and Twitter account. To sign-up for our district's emergency text messaging service, see below:
Parents - Sign-Up for Emergency Text Messaging: The Boise School District offers emergency text messaging for parents/guardians. Learn more and sign-up.
Non-Parents - Mobile App Available: Boise School District has a mobile app to improve communication to you. The app offers emergency alerts and is available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
While the holiday season can be a time of togetherness, it can also create stress and challenges for others. If you or your loved ones are in need of resources, please do not hesitate to reach out to the community members on this list, Holiday Resource List For Families 2023. We care about you!
Finally, when we return from winter break, 5th/6th grade boy’s basketball will begin the week of January 8th. Mrs. Walsh will be this year's boys basketball coach, supported by Mr. Reed. More information to come in the upcoming weeks.
Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season and my continued gratitude for your support this school year.
All my best.
