From Ms. O's Desk

Dear Quetzal Families,

It was wonderful seeing such a great turn out for our Walkathon last Friday! Thank you so much for joining us and supporting our PTA. I understand that we have surpassed our goal, and this is obviously due to our students committed in completing their pledges and your support with this amazing event. I want to thank all the parents who actively helped and participated actively all afternoon. We see you, and we appreciate you!

Our PTA is in need of a treasurer. This vital role keeps track of the PTA bank accounts and arranges for checks and payments for PTA events (which includes supplies, field trips, and after school classes). No experience is needed. They have a comprehensive guide created by a previous treasurer. All you need is attention to detail and about 10-15 hours commitment per month. This position would be great for someone wanting to get more involved with the PTA and school without having to come on campus regularly. Feel free to reach out to Anna Soland or to me with any questions.

This week, we will celebrating Veterans Day. There will be no school on Friday. Please take time to talk at home about the importance of honoring our Veterans and celebrating them every day.

Here are some facts about Veterans Day:

  • Veterans Day does NOT have an apostrophe.
  • Veterans Day is NOT the Same as Memorial Day.
  • It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I.

Our school and district will be celebrating No Place for Hate Week next week. We will be working on empathy lessons and activities at school. Help us carry the message at home and remind your child the beauty of diversity, the wonders of equity, and the power if kindness. As the 14th Dalai Lama said, "Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible!"

Have a great rest of your week!

In partnership,

Claudia Olaciregui, Principal

Better Together: November

This month’s theme for #BetterTogetherMVWSD is Empathy. Empathy is fundamental in promoting understanding, compassion, and unity among individuals and communities. It enables us to connect with others on a deeper level, to share their joys and sorrows, and to stand in their shoes, even when we may not fully comprehend their experiences. Recognizing United Against Hate Week is an important time of year as it underscores the need to combat discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry in all their forms. By participating in this initiative, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering a community where empathy is not just a concept but a guiding principle that helps us build a world where people of all backgrounds can coexist harmoniously, free from fear and hatred. Join us as we recognize United Against Hate Week with activities and programming taking place November 13-17th at all school sites. For more information about Better Together, visit mvwsd.org/BetterTogetherMVWSD.
