If your name is not listed, please go to the link listed below and complete the Google form (takes only a few seconds to complete and send) if your Study Hall students have completed the required five Nearpod lessons OR if you covered the five Nearpod lessons with your students.

RHS Media Tech Center Online Schedule
Please feel free to check the RHS Media Tech Center Online Schedule to sign up for several areas in the MTC. If you prefer to ask the MTC staff to check for available computers/areas, please send an e-mail to Kathryn Swearingen and Catharine Phillips. Ms. Phillips will check for availability and will send us an e-mail to know what has been scheduled for you and your students.
Please be certain to include both of us with your e-mail requests as we need to know what classes are scheduled as well as to check available resources, including the MackinVIA Online resources. The more you let us know the objectives you plan to accomplish with your classes, this will help us to locate better resources for you and your students.
Also, please note that FCS requires the staff at the RHS Media Tech Center to share access information to students and staff regarding MackinVIA, Online databases, OverDrive and other available resources. We must use MackinVIA and the databases as much as possible as we work together to make our students COLLEGE READY and CAREER READY. IMPORTANT: Please note that FCS keeps daily records for every school to be certain we utilize these valuable resources which are paid by FCS funding.
Available areas: Please note that the computers will be available for some of the school year; however, with the transition to the S3 devices, plans are being discussed regarding the future for the Dell and Mac computers in every school.
1. C-100 / Computer lab
30 Desktop computers
NOT available during Period 1 for most of the school year; GT Math uses computers.
2. Main floor area
26 Desktop computers
Teachers with more than 26 students usually reserve the 10 desktop computers @ the 5 glass rooms to accommodate more students. If the glass rooms are not available, you may wish to reserve additional laptops if some students do not have their S3 digital devices, especially at the beginning of a semester.
3. Glass rooms
2 computers per each of the 5 glass rooms / Total of 10 computers / Add S3 + laptops
May use glass rooms for more than 2 students.
4. Back area of MTC
Seating for 30 students/staff
Sony TV available with HDMI cable to enable access to teachers' laptops.
5. Front area of MTC
Seating for at least 20 students / staff.
Sony TV is used for headline news, special presentations, and the "Buzzy" on Fridays.
6. Media Tech Center Online Calendar
When you use the MTC Online Calendar OR send an e-mail to K. Swearingen and C. Phillips requesting additional desktops / an area for any of your classes, we need you to list the number of students who will be using the computers / area. We are required to keep records for the number of students / classes using the Media Tech Center each day / week / month for our FCS / RHS statistical information. Also, this will help us to have the appropriate number of resources / extra computers available for you and your classes.
Also, please let me know if you will need additional assistance with MackinVIA, database information, other Online resources and tools for your classes.
Log-in Information for MTC Online Calendar
Please note: Will send link for MTC Online Calendar to teachers as we cannot post Online by giving access to students and others. Thanks!

5. Be certain to note that Period 4 is for two hours and includes the four half hours for lunch and study hall periods. Be careful about selecting the 4 A + B for the first hour OR 4 C + D for the second hour. Let us know if you need assistance.

8. If you need to cancel, please delete your name and student numbers listed OR send an e-mail and ask us to delete your reservation. Please send an e-mail to K. Swearingen and C. Phillips to update the information. Thanks!
Digital Citizenship and "Fake News" Information / Maker Education / Edutopia
1. With the annual Digital Citizenship requirements for students, especially after they receive their digital devices, here is an interesting web site developed by Indiana University that I received recently from one of my professional listservs.
"Hoaxy is a platform for the collection, detection, and analysis of online misinformation and its related fact-checking efforts. With the increasing risks connected to massive online misinformation, social news observatories have the potential to help researchers, journalists, and the general public understand the dynamics of real and fake news sharing. It's up to users to evaluate the evidence about a claim and its rebuttal."

2. Here is an article regarding "fake news."
Click on bold blue words for links.
"Mountains of Misinformation" / 12-16-2016 / EdSurge
The digital age has launched us into an era where, instead of missing information, we must sort through and understand unbelievably massive amounts of it. But digital literacy in 2017-2018 won't be simply a matter of finding what's true, says Ryan Hunt, cofounder of the MakerBus, Canada’s mobile makerspace. Instead, "it will mean being able to critically engage with the information you find."

Believe It or Not
1. Three of our staff met with the Steelcase Company more than four years ago as we wanted to update the Media Tech Center. As we had to wait for the FCS funding, we are thrilled now that our MTC is updated! Thanks so much to FCS for this great renovation which is appreciated and utilized constantly by so many students / parents / staff / community!
2. The past six years, including summers, have been "Buzzy Busy" by storing the furniture, equipment and resources for several departments in addition to the construction work in and around the Media Tech Center.
3. Hundreds, seems like thousands, of working hours and extra hours have been spent moving, discarding, moving again, discarding again, moving again, assembling boxes, labeling boxes, packing boxes, unpacking boxes, moving furniture / equipment / resources and so much more to embrace this wonderful renovation to our Media Tech Center.
4. We have had the summers in the Media Tech Center filled to overflowing with furniture / equipment / resources as well as the usage for two summers by the summer school students / staff. One summer was spent by storing the furniture/equipment/files of the Media Tech Center, the Main Office and Student Services. Another summer was spent with the addition of 8 larger windows and the addition of a beautiful new lobby area with construction lasting until January. The next summer was spent with the redoing of the HVAC system in part of the MTC area. The summer a year ago was for the huge renovation of the 14 media tech centers in FCS.
There probably are not too many media tech centers that have been through more than six years and summers of renovations and two summer schools - EACH ONE IN A ROW! Yes, a large portion of the furniture / equipment / resources have been "inherited" from others. However, we are SUPER THRILLED with the NEWLY RENOVATED RHS MEDIA TECH CENTER!!! Thanks so much for this AWESOME MEDIA TECH CENTER!!!
Please see the photos below to see the "long journey" of six years of moving / storing / discarding so much vintage furniture / equipment / resources. Please know how EXCITED and THANKFUL we are to have our NEWLY RENOVATED WHITE / GREEN / BLACK / CONTEMPORARY / BEAUTIFUL / AWESOME RHS MEDIA TECH CENTER!!!
