This week, we revisited inferencing as we read, Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day, by Barbara Park. We discussed the importance of effort and good sportsmanship. In writer's workshop, we created stories of our own choosing. We included interesting opening and closing sentences, descriptive details, punctuation, capitalization, and the use of transition words in our writing.
In spelling, we worked with the prefixes un- and re-. We learned that adding a prefix can change the meaning of the base word.
In math, we learned how to tell time to the quarter hour on an analog clock.
In social studies, we started working on our first grade memory books.
In science, we investigated what happens when magnets come close together. We found out that magnetism is a force that can push and pull. The force of magnetism can make things move.

June 2nd Lunch
Starting Monday, May 23rd your child must have money in his/her lunch account or cash to pay for their breakfasts, lunches, snacks, water, etc. Students may not have a negative balance in their lunch account. Any money left at the end of the year will be here in August. If you have any questions, please contact our cafeteria manager, Robyn Anderson at firstname.lastname@example.org
If your child has lost his or her book, you will be receiving information with the amount you'll owe to replace the book. Report cards will be held at the end of the year until missing library books are returned or replaced.
Tuesday, May 31st, will be the annual first grade Camp Read-A-lot. Students will enjoy a full day of reading “camp-style”. Each child may bring a pillow, blanket, flashlight, stuffed animal, snacks, and, most importantly, BOOKS!!! Please be sure that your child can carry everything they bring on their own. Camp Read-A-lot is our way of celebrating how hard the kids have worked on becoming GREAT readers this year!!!!
