Weekly Happenings

This week, we revisited inferencing as we read, Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day, by Barbara Park. We discussed the importance of effort and good sportsmanship. In writer's workshop, we created stories of our own choosing. We included interesting opening and closing sentences, descriptive details, punctuation, capitalization, and the use of transition words in our writing.

In spelling, we worked with the prefixes un- and re-. We learned that adding a prefix can change the meaning of the base word.

In math, we learned how to tell time to the quarter hour on an analog clock.

In social studies, we started working on our first grade memory books.

In science, we investigated what happens when magnets come close together. We found out that magnetism is a force that can push and pull. The force of magnetism can make things move.

Don't forget to notify your child's teacher if your child will need a sack lunch on June 2nd. The sack lunch will include: turkey cheese sandwich on a pretzel bun, fruit, and milk. If your child is a vegetarian, PBJ sandwich is available as an option instead of the turkey cheese sandwich. Please include which lunch option you would like to order in your response. Please inform your child's teacher by Monday, May 23rd.

Cafeteria Accounts

Starting Monday, May 23rd your child must have money in his/her lunch account or cash to pay for their breakfasts, lunches, snacks, water, etc. Students may not have a negative balance in their lunch account.
