What's Been Going On?

This past week, we had a fun time reading our Imagine It story, Damon and Pythias, in readers' theater groups! The students also had the opportunity to read their first copy of Scholastic News. This reading resulted in rich discussion concerning our world, country, and current events.

We also learned more about how to fill our classroom bucket this week! Please ask your child what it means to be a bucket filler versus a bucket dipper. We will also be setting goals in the next two weeks regarding our academics, character, and behavior. Feel free to chat with your child about things that they would like to work on in third grade to prepare them goal setting.

Peek At The Week

Language Arts

This week, we will read a story called Goodbye 382 Shin Dang Dong. We will focus on making connections, predicting, and author's purpose. We will be starting guided reading groups soon, so we will continue to build our reading and working stamina as well as practicing transitioning from station to station. In our grammar book we are working on subjects, predicates, combining sentences, and recognizing run-on sentences.

Social Studies

Students have enjoyed learning all about rivers around the world and their importance to humans and animals. Students completed the unit study guide to keep in class and a copy went home on Friday. There will be a test on Tuesday (9-20-16).

Math classes are up and running. On Monday, a letter went home regarding math homework. Please email your teacher if you have any questions about math.

Ask Your Child

Did you study for your river's test?

What are some of the world's largest rivers?

What are some academic, behavior, and character goals you might like to set this year?

Find examples of respect in the media and bring it to class to hang on the bulletin board.

Spelling City

Click on the link to go to the 3rd grade SCPA spelling list. Use this to study each week. The unit and lesson numbers are on the list stapled in your child's binder.
