Friday Focus

Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 . . . vol. 2, no. 6

Meant to cut down on the number of emails you receive from me, Friday Focus is a quick digest of news and notes for members of the Indianapolis Public Library Shared System.

Colts Game 9/28 - We Got Tickets!

We had such a good response to the idea of celebrating dads who help promote reading and strong academics with students that we had to open up the games on 9/28 and 10/5. If you had some dads in mind that couldn't make this week's Monday night game, let me know ASAP so I can get them on the ticket list!

Last night I spoke with Greg VanSlambrook, the principal at Brebeuf, whose son attends Joan of Arc. He said he loves the Shared System as a principal, of course, but also as a dad! His son is in 2nd grade and can't get enough books to read! Make sure YOUR dads (and your principals) know about your connection to the Indianapolis Public Library. Maybe hooking them up with some tickets will be a way to start the conversation!

Thank you, Dwayne Allen!

OverDrive Updates App

OverDrive announced this week that a new version of the OverDrive app for Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod touch), and Windows 8 is here! (I am borrowing almost in entirety from their announcement.) (N.B. This does NOT apply to other versions of Windows, only Windows 8.)

This update features the long-awaited elimination of the Adobe Authorization step from the app installation process! This will make OverDrive easier to use, and give users options like syncing reading progress across multiple devices and saving libraries and common searches.

First-time users will now be prompted to create an OverDrive account. There is no change for existing users who already have an Adobe ID or OverDrive account associated with their OverDrive app, even after they update to the newest version.

Users under the age of 13 can anonymously authorize the OverDrive app without creating an OverDrive account.

Users will be able to return Open EPUB titles before the end of their lending period. All formats that the app supports can now be returned before expiration. (This means you can borrow more stuff – and read more!)
