Volume 1, Issue 2
Are you Ready?
This summer, the APS KRA trainers will be hosting sessions for you to learn more and be trained to administer the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment. Look for the session postings via Munis and sign up for one of the 2 day sessions. We're looking forward to learning with you. The dates we've scheduled are as follows: June 9-10, June 16-17, June 18-19, July 8-9, August 5-6 and August 19-20. Please register for one of these sessions as soon as possible. Stipends, CEU's and Graduate Credit will be available.
The training will consist of two days of in-person (face to face) sessions. Topics covered will include the purpose and structure of the assessment, administration of the assessment, technology for scoring, learning about the new domains assessed, accommodations for all students including those with IEPs or English Language Learners, data reporting and communication with families.
Kindergarten Readiness Assessment-Explained!
The Kindergarten Readiness Assessment is a new assessment tool that will be used to find an instructional starting point for those Kindergarteners who are entering Kindergarten for the first time. This assessment is replacing the KRA-L Assessment we have previously used. The students will be assessed by their classroom teacher across six domains: Social Emotional, Language and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Physical Well-being and Motor Development. The assessment will contain three question types: selected response items, performance tasks, and teacher observations of everyday activities. It will be considered a secure test, so materials are not to be shared or distributed with others. The assessment window will occur beginning from the first day of school through November 1. APS has selected the KRA Language and Literacy component to meet the Third Grade Guarantee requirement for Kindergarteners. Therefore this component of the assessment must be administered by Sept. 30, 2014.
