1. Meaningful Mantras & the Power of Spoken Words
A "mantra" is a short group of words that are put together that hold meaning. It could be a phrase, a statement, or a slogan, but a real mantra is something that possesses power. Its intent is to add concentration to the desired outcome. As part of our personal responsibility to wellness, we must take on our personal mantra and live that out!
Why take time to put mental and emotional energy in coming up with a phrase for yourself? The answer is the fact that there is power in spoken (and written) words. Words can give us energy, they have the ability to either help or hurt, to heal or to hinder, to uplift or tear down, to give or to take, and they bring respect or resentment. It's even been said the power of life and death is in the tongue. With that reality, hone in on your mantra and say it over your life until you see if before your eyes.
Our associates are marching to their own cadence. They are setting their own bar higher than ever. They are steaming with ambition and moving toward healthier lifestyle habits.
What will your sacred utterance be? What is your own cultural ethos? For yourself, your family, your career?
What we speak out we tend to live out. Join in and let us know your mantra. A very neat thing happens when we all begin to speak a similar language, it culminates in our culture!
2. Don't Call it a Comeback! Zumba Returns | Monday's @ 11am!

3. Lori's Laws of Nutrition | Macro-Nutrients 101
Lori Woodward, registered dietitian, is here every Monday for your complimentary 20 minute consultation. Simply schedule via the Coliseum app or email us, then show up for your consultation in HR. When you walk in HR, it's the 1st door on the left :).
These questions came in for Lori recently:
- What are macro nutrients?
- How much protein should I eat and what kind?
- What are sources of dietary protein?
- Do complex carbs make you fat?
- What should my intake be from complex carbs?
Check out her notes in the attachment, and feel free to keep sending in your questions!
4. Joe Knows about Lifestyle Conditioning
He can slam a revolving door. When he does push ups, the earth moves down. He gave his father "the talk." His feet don’t get blisters, but his shoes do. He can speak Russian… in French. Superman has pajamas with his logo. Sharks have a week dedicated to him. Now you know Joe...
Here are some quick thoughts from Joe on mantras and training maxims:
1. A new year’s resolution is meaningless. If behavior modification is important to an individual then a decision to change should be made immediately rather than waiting to start on a seemingly arbitrary date on the calendar.
2. A training partner who is willing to dish out tough love is important. This workout buddy should motivate you to go beyond your perceived limits rather than congratulating you for trying or almost completing a particular training evolution. There have been countless times when I’ve had my ‘hands on my hips’ ready to quit a boxing round, and Adam Vinson challenged me to hang in there rather aggressively and complete the round. Michael Manasuma has done the same thing in regard to my lifting. There are times when I don’t think I can do anymore bench press and he shames me into pushing out one or two more reps.
3. Ego can be your friend. People often say "leave your ego at the door", I say use it to challenge yourself to push past your training partner (and vice versa). Use your ego to drive competition between you and your workout crew. Strive to be first, or strongest, or have the most endurance in your group. That competition can fuel growth if everyone is pushing each other.
