Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
November 18th-22nd
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week in Social Studies we will start our new unit on "Industry and Immigration". We will discuss Jim Crow Laws and their impact on America. Students will take their vocabulary quiz on Friday. They received their words last week and should have flash cards in the pocket of their notebook to use as a study tool. They also have access to spellingcity.com that is a great resource to use when studying.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA: This week we will be working on finishing up our Nanowrimo stories. Students will need to have 4,000 typed words by Friday. Their goal will be 5,000 by the end of the month. We will also read our final Junior Great Book story in our "Self-Respect" unit, "The Invisible Child." Students will take an open-book test on this story on Wednesday. On Friday, their spelling activities are due and they will take their spelling tests. In math, we will start our unit on long division. This is an extremely hard concept for students to master, so you may see an increase in homework this week as we practice what we are learning in class. Please have patience with us as we work hard to master this concept. There will not be a math quiz this week.
JA BizTown Field Trip is Thursday
Students have worked very hard to prepare for this exciting field trip. Please remember to have students bring their own lunch from home unless they have ordered a school lunch. This field trip will take place during school hours, so we will be back before dismissal. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to chaperone. This should be a great day!
School Store and Spirit Day is Friday
Students are encouraged to wear their FMES blue and gold gear on Friday to show their school spirit. The school store will also be open.
Thanksgiving is Almost Here!
Thanksgiving break will start on Wednesday 27th. I hope everyone enjoys a wonderful, relaxing holiday break with their friends and family.
Other Information:
- Thank you to everyone who has sent in items for Operation Christmas Child! I'm overwhelmed with the generosity. We will be packing boxes on Friday morning, so if you are still wanting to send in items, we will take them until Friday.
- FMES Food Drive is going on until 11/22.
