Thursday Thoughts
Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
We are done with our Eastern Woodlands study. To celebrate the end of the unit, we had a feast and sampled foods from this region. We began our study of the Arctic by labeling a map and learning about the landscape.
In math class, we collected data on the number of pockets children were wearing yesterday. We also learned about Frames and Arrows with two rules and reviewed telling time.
Ms. Holzer and Mrs. King switched groups in book clubs. Ms. Holzer's group read Brave Irene by William Steig and I Wanna Iguana by Karen Kaufman Orloff. The group learned about how to write a persuasive letter. Mrs. King's group studied about allegory and read various examples by way of picture books. Mrs. Kaufman's group read I Wanna Iguana and I Wanna New Room and also wrote persuasive letters.
On Tuesday, December 8th, the children are invited to wear pajamas to school and bring in one stuffed animal as a prize for filling the marble jar! We will also watch a movie during lunch time. Children may bring in a change of clothes if needed.
Our holiday party takes place next Thursday, December 10th, at 9:00 am. We will be decorating onesies for the babies at Mary's Center. Parents are invited to join us as many hands on deck will be helpful for this project. We are also collecting new socks for mothers and their babies. These can be brought in starting next Monday. We know that you are generously donating items for our family through A Wider Circle so we appreciate this additional donation request.
Thanks and have a wonderful weekend!
Emilia and Rachel
