East China School District News
Every Child, Every Day!
Week of June 1, 2020
Update from the Superintendent
You may have heard about other school districts rolling out their plans for next school year and wondering how East China School District is preparing for next Fall. Although much research, discussion, and collaboration is occurring with our administrators and staff regarding what next year's learning environment will look like, we cannot be certain about our plans until we are provided direction from the Governor and the Michigan Department of Education on what will be allowed and what funding will be allocated. However, you can be assured that we will continue to provide the best options for our students and families, always keeping safety as our number one priority. Our hope is to be back as close to normal as we are allowed. A few of the instructional options that are being considered for next school year include face-to-face, digital, and a combination of the two. We are prepared to provide a variety of learning platforms to meet the particular needs of each of our students and their families. As the framework for next school year is developed we will continue to share the information as it becomes available.
Congratulations Class of 2020!

MCHS Locker Clean Out - Return Items
On Monday, June 1st and Tuesday, June 2nd, Marine City High School has a plan to allow students back into the building to clean out locker(s) and return MCHS items. This is going to be a process that is conducted alphabetically over two days with different time slots in order to socially distance.
The time frame is as follows:
Monday, June 1st - Last names beginning with:
A through D = 9am - 12 pm
E through K = 1pm - 4pm
A through K, for students who couldn't make it during the day = 5pm - 7pm
Tuesday, June 2nd - Last names beginning with:
L through R = 9am - 12 pm
S through Z = 1pm - 4pm
S through Z, for students who couldn't make it during the day = 5pm - 7pm
*For students who need to return a uniform of any kind (band, choir, athletic) they will do so at respective doors before entering the building.
Band Uniforms - drop off at Mr. Fox’s outside door
Choir Uniforms - drop off at Mr. VanDyke’s outside door
Sports Uniforms/Backpacks - drop off at the outside Auxiliary Gym Door
*For students who have supplies in the Art Room that need to be picked up, you will pick up your materials at Mrs. William’s outside door.
All Students: Route for entering/exiting building:
1. Students only will be entering the building at the band door entrance and then proceed to their locker for clean out. As students wait in line to enter the building, there will be cones set up on the sidewalk for social distancing - please abide by social distancing procedures. It is recommended that a face mask be worn while in the building.
2. Once the student cleans out his/her locker and collects his/her belongings, students will proceed to the media center to drop off anything that has been checked out: books, calculators, etc. **Make sure you bring your books, equipment, etc. with you that you presently have at home to return.
3. After the media center, students will proceed to the front hall. If students purchased a yearbook, they will be able to pick it up in front of the yearbook room (Room 203).
4. If a student owes fines or has outstanding balances, they will be able to pay on their account in front of the main office.
5. Students will continue through the front hall to the gym - 9th, 10th and 11th graders will continue and exit out the athletic entrance doors, into the parking lot and catch their ride home.
6. Seniors: “Senior Central” will be set up in the gym. Seniors will be able to pick up their cap and gown, awards for the year (departmental, athletic, Moscars), NHS graduation stoles and medals, parchment information, and commencement car pass. They will also stop to sign Ms. Becker’s graduation gown. Anything that seniors need to do or pick up/drop off, will be conducted in the gym. Once they are done, they will also proceed out the athletic entrance door to the parking lot and drive off for the last time.
The hope is to have a circle flow so no one crosses paths and can enter and exit the building in a short amount of time. We will be staggering how many students are let in the building at a time and directing students to complete this process quickly. It is suggested that students bring a bag to carry their belongings. Please make plans to participate during your scheduled time.
