Owl Superfan Fundraiser
We are hosting our first school-wide fundraiser! Our goal is to raise funds for our many clubs and activities at Onslow Early College High School. Most of our students are involved in multiple clubs, so your support is needed!
The fundraiser is through Super Fan. OECHS students received brochures at school today with all of the products for sale. Super Fan has many different cups, bottles, tumblers, and other products in an array of styles. They also have officially-licensed products from your favorite NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and NCAA teams!
There is a button below that will take you to the online store where you can browse and shop all of their products.
Customers have the option of paying in cash, by check (to Onslow Early College High School), or by debit/credit card.
The sale will end November 4th and products will ship 3-5 weeks after the close of the sale, meaning all products will arrive before our Christmas Break.
We also sent home information for a special order: Our very-own OECHS Tervis tumber for $20! You can find a photo of the OECHS tumbler below. We need to sell 100 of these limited edition Tervis tumblers!
If you would like an OECHS Tervis tumbler, please see one of our OECHS students, or stop by and see Mrs. Kellum in CE 109 at Coastal Carolina Community College.
SPA 111
1. PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions) will begin on Mondays and Tuesdays at 2:00 in CB 102 for OECHS SPA 111 students.
2. Sr. Sandoval will begin tutoring sessions to prepare OECHS students on current class content on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:00, in the Spanish classroom.
3. CCCC Spanish instructors will also offer "Lunch and Learn" study sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As the title suggests, these sessions will occur during lunch time and will focus on remediation of content covered in the first two SPA 111 tests.
Finally, OECHS students will be permitted to retake a different version of their first two tests in SPA 111. This is optional for all OECHS students in SPA 111. They can retake either of the first two exams, or they can retake both. This is a one-time event. There will be no other retakes.
Retakes will occur in CE 107 at 2:00 on:
November 4th (T/TH students for Exam 1)
November 5th (M/W students for Exam 1)
November 6th (T/TH students for Exam 2)
November 7th (M/W students for Exam 2)
All OECHS SPA 111 students are able to take advantage of the PASS sessions, tutoring, Lunch and Learn, as well as the test retakes. All of these are mandatory for any of the OECHS SPA 111 students that currently have a D or F in the course.
Thank you to the administration and staff of Coastal Carolina Community College for making the opportunities possible!
RISE, 2.8 GPA, and Academic Probation
Of of the new methods to allow students to take Math and English courses is to have an unweighted GPA of 2.8 or more. Another method is to take the new RISE exam. It is a very difficult exam and there are no study guides for it. This exam can only be taken two times in the course of ten years.
Sufficed to say, we need to avoid having to retake another exam or delay admission into Math and English courses! To guarantee that OECHS students stay on pace in their graduation requirements for OECHS and CCCC, they need to maintain a 2.8 GPA.
If students have a GPA below a 2.8, they will be placed on Academic Probation, meaning that they will only be permitted to engage in only one club activity per week. The rest of the club time in the afternoon will be devoted to increasing their grades and overall GPA.
Please contact Mr. Strope (james.strope@onslow.k12.nc.us) if you have any questions!

English IV Honors:
This week students completed their Comparative Analysis Essay in APA format. APA format is significantly different from the MLA style they learned in English II; however, it is often used at the college level; therefore, it is important that students know the different. In addition, students completed their study of The Canterbury Tales. Beginning next week, students will begin looking at the Renaissance Period and how Shakespeare used cultural events to develop the themes in his dramas. It is at this point students will work in play specific groups draw from the plays read over the summer.
Regarding the Graduation Project: Students have had the required forms since the beginning of the semester. The six-week grading period and several students are still missing forms. The zero for the missing items will be replaced when the forms are submitted.
There are a few students who have yet to secure a mentor. The final due date for all forms, products, and mentor log is November 26, and presentations will take place on December 5th. Please help your child manage his or her time to ensure they are prepared to complete this task in a timely manner.
Math
Honors Math 2: The current average in each class is a 90. Students took a quiz on Unit 4 this past Friday and grades will be updated by Sunday evening. Next week students will begin Unit 5 Congruency. Students will focus on different types of angles. There will be several online assignments on deltamath and IXL as well as on Study Island.
Honors Math 4: Students completed the Introduction to Trigonometry and had a test this past Wednesday. We have started our second trigonometry unit which focuses on Solving Oblique Triangles, and Vectors. The beginning of the upcoming week will be devoted to learning the Law of Sines, and the Law of Cosines. We will have a quiz on those concepts Thursday. Friday we will begin working on Vectors.
Social Studies
Civics and Economics: What a week! We ended our look at the Writing of the Constitution with a test on Tuesday, and a closer look at the arguments from the Federalists and Anti-Federalists by looking closely at some more of the Federalist Papers. We have started looking at the contents of the Constitution itself by examining the Preamble and the three branches of government. We are specifically focusing on the Legislative Branch first. We tried out a new note-taking strategy called Doodle Notes on Friday.
Next week we will continue looking at the Constitution and examining the Executive and Judicial branches. Depending on our week, we might have a test on Friday. Keep a look out on Remind or Teams for updates.
AP WH: We are moving through our unit titled The Global Tapestry. We have looked at the Byzantine Empire and the beginnings of various belief systems. Our focus the next few weeks will be how religion impacted European society. Students will have a map quiz next week (Wednesday for A-Day and Thursday for B-Day). We will be wrapping up our first mini-lessons next week and will have a test the week of the 21st.
American History I Honors: We completed and tested Unit III: Nationalism & Sectionalism. We wrapped up the period with a documentary of Andrew Jackson (The Good, the Bad, & the Presidency). Students had a video guide to complete as we watched the documentary. We also discussed the roots of the democratic party and made comparisons to today’s political climate.
