King Connections
November 2, 2020
Important Information
Dear King Families!
It's hard to believe that November is already here! The amount of snow that we had on Friday was much more than we had expected but it's already disappearing almost as fast as it came. It did serve a reminder, though, that this year, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has granted districts permission to have remote learning days instead of snow days that would typically need to be held at the end of the school year. This will be in place for the 2020- 2021 school-year. Dr. Tremblay will be working closely with District leaders and the Department of Public Works to ensure that protocols and a plan are in place as we approach the snow season!
This week's King Connections includes:
* Grab and Go Food Distribution
* Kindergarten & 5th Grade Band Instrument Distribution
* PTO Update
* Technology Troubleshooting Tip
* Important iReady Information
* November's Character Education Theme: Gratitude
* Workshop Survey from King Social Workers- The link is working now!
Best,
Allison

Grab and Go Food Distribution
Beginning on November 2nd, all schools will be Open Food Distribution sites for the city from 10:00AM-1:00PM each day, including King. Families will be asked to park in the spaces at the side of the building near the cafeteria (Door 24) and Food Service staff will go out to greet them at their cars. There is no cost for these meals and ALL Framingham families are welcome.

KINDERGARTEN AND 5TH GRADE BAND INSTRUMENT DISTRIBUTION- Friday, NOVEMBER 6TH
On Friday, November 6th, we will be distributing additional important learning materials to KINDERGARTEN students only. These learning bags will have some essential instructional materials that teachers will ask students to access during lessons, such as specific content graphic organizers, manipulatives, books, journals, etc., so we ask that you do your best to come by at one of the 2 windows of time to pick up the individualized bags.
Additionally, 5th Grade BAND students who are borrowing instruments from the school, will also be able to pick them up on November 6th.
We will be distributing items at the rear of the building at Door 18 near the playground.
We will offer two windows of time in order to accommodate your busy schedules to the best of our ability.
- 8:00am-9:00am AND 5:00pm- 6:00pm

SOME TECHNOLOGY TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS!
Some families have reported their child's chromebook screen as being "too dark" and the chromebook functioning very slowly. Here are some videos that may help you with technology at home.

iReady Updates
Last week we had a very successful launch of the ELA iReady Diagnostic. This week, we will be assessing grades 2-5 in Math, beginning with 5th grade tomorrow. Please refer to the information and links below.
Diagnostic 1: October 19th - November 13th
Diagnostic 2: February 22nd - March 19th
Since we are in a remote setting, we will deliver the 1st diagnostic virtually! Taking into consideration the bandwidth that is needed when taking the diagnostic, the District has created the calendar below which outlines which grade levels are assigned to administer the assessment on their assigned days.
While it will be tempting to help your child on the diagnostic, it is very important that you refrain from assisting them. The results give teachers important information that they are then able to use to provide your child with the most appropriate instruction. Some of the questions in the diagnostic will seem easy to students and some will be quite hard. That is done purposefully in order to learn the "just right" level of each individual student.
Please take a moment to click on the links below; The iReady Family Guide and Teachers Need Your Help This Fall Video. They are available in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
