Book Summary

Jonas is just a normal boy living in his controlled community, but in some ways he's different and he knows it. After growing up seeing differences in the world that no one else could visualize, he is selected as receiver of memory. For a long period of time, Jonas collects memories, good and bad, from The Giver. One night, he learns that his younger sibling, Gabe, will be released the next morning. He decided to take action and runs away from their community along with his baby brother. They must travel through severe weather and must go days with out a single meal to reach another welcoming community, that he hopes is different from the last.

Main Character: Jonas

Jonas is a 12 year-old boy living in a well supervised community. He is a unique boy that can see things that other people cannot such as color. He must go through different challenges since he becomes the Receiver of memories. The memories contain scenes from different places outside of the community and at different times in history. He decides that the rest of the community should not all be the same so he runs away from the community, past the boundary and releases all memories so that sameness does not exist.
