The Civil Rights Act
The Civil Rights means that African Americans got treated different because of their race. Which means it was a law that African Americans couldn't eat in the same place as white people, learn in the same place, go to the bathroom in the same place, sit in the same place, and many more things that African Americans couldn't do but white people could.
Kelly
Kelly and her family did not think it was fair that African Americans got treated different just because of their race. They fought for their freedom by going to to all of the places that they were not aloud to go. Which caused them to go to jail.
Celeste
Celeste's family does not enjoy Kelly's family. However, Celeste enjoys Kelly and her family. When Kelly's family gets stuck in jail Celeste gets Kelly's family out and Kelly is very thankful. Celeste escapes from jail after getting Kelly's family out, but she almost does.
