A Message from the Principal
We are excited to share your student's progress with you next week, during Parent Conferences. Please be on time for your conference as each teacher is booked all day. You do not have to check into the office. You may park in the large parking lot on the south side of the building and enter Door 4. Upon entering, you may go directly to your child's class.
As the year progresses, we are seeing more aggression among students. Students are pushing in line, taking things that do not belong to them, and hitting when they do not get what they want. Please remind students that school is a place for safety and learning. If your child is being aggressive, have them practice deep breathing, counting to 10, or removing themselves from the area, before reacting.
Fifth grade had mock interviews this week in preparation for their field trip to JA Biztown. The students looked amazing, had confidence, shook hands, and made eye contact with the interviewers. I am very proud of each of them.
Today also kicks off our PTO fundraiser. This year we are doing a Fun Run. On October 27, 2023, students will run around the outside of the school. They will earn silly accessories to wear by getting donations. We will have music, games, fitness, and fun all while raising money for our school through the PTO. The top collector in each grade level will have lunch from Culvers with Mrs. Pearson. The class in each grade level that collects the most will have a pizza party and extra recess. Please help us raise money for our school. See the flyer below to help your student start collecting donations. You can click the flyer to go to our school page or send this link https://stephendecatur.myfunrun.com/. From there you can click the "Donate to Participant" button to go to your student's page.

E= Events: We cannot control things that happen
R= Response: We can control our response to the event
O=Outcome: Having a proper response will get the desired outcome.
This concept is powerful for all of us. Daily, many things happen that are out of our control. We can lash out or we can pause, think, and then respond. Pausing for reflection allows us to get the outcome that we need and want.
