IMEA Recognition Congratulations
Each year, the Illinois Music Educators Association sponsors a composition contest where students can submit their own music creations. For the second year in a row, Abby Gillham is being recognized for her music compositions. Abby won first place in the state for her small ensemble piece called Valiance, and she won honorable mention for her piano solo Sonatina in F Major. Please help us in congratulating Abby for her accomplishments! ILMEA has awarded Abby with a scholarship to attend the University of Illinois Summer Youth Music program as well as a 5-year premium subscription to noteflight, a music notation computer program. Congratulations, Abby!
Orchestra Concert Success

Congratulations to our 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade orchestra students as well as to our students in Pioneer Fiddlers and Select Strings! You all did an amazing job! SCREENAGERS Viewing
SCREENAGERS: Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. In SCREENAGERS, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant, and unexpectedly funny stories, along with surprising insights from authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. If you are interested in learning more, come to the free screening of SCREENAGERS (67 min. runtime) from 7:00-8:30, March 19th, at Crone Middle School.

8th Grade: Tell your child about a time you helped someone avoid a conflict. Ask your child if he or she has ever helped a friend avoid a conflict. Together, discuss some ideas for how to help friends avoid serious conflicts.
