The Oxford Update

Oxford Elementary School

We Would Like to Hear How We Are Doing!

In the summer we asked our families to give us feedback on their experience with the emergency learning services we had provided. We used that information to design a different system and are working to put that in place as we gain better access to computers and learn more about engaging students from a distance. All the while we are also trying to bring as normal an experience as possible to our in-person school. We would like your feedback on how we are doing.

Your input is very valuable and will help us to deliver the very best learning experience possible for your child.

Please complete the quick survey below for each of your children, if you feel the feedback to us would be different for each of them. There are different surveys for OHMS and OHCHS.

Meet Office Cronce, Our New School Resource Officer (SRO)

I have worked as a full-time law enforcement officer in the Oxford Hills area for almost 10 years. I received my college education in the state of Indiana where I met my wife of 16 years. We moved to Maine about 12 years ago and have 3 wonderful children. I enjoy playing music, anything with an engine, and a multitude of outdoor sports. I am currently in the Army National Guard and look forward to attending OCS (Officer Candidate School) next year. I am just as equally excited to take on the new role as the SRO (School Resource Officer) for the Oxford Elementary School. I have a lot to learn about this job, but I guess school is the perfect environment for learning. I look forward to meeting and getting to know everyone in the coming months!

Second Step Social Emotional Curriculum

We want your child to be successful in school and that means supporting and encouraging their whole development. While excelling in academic classes is important, students also need skills to take on learning challenges, make good decisions, handle strong emotions, and get along with others.

This year, all PreK-8 schools in our district are implementing Second Step®, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, such as emotion management, impulse control, problem-solving, and empathy. Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help students both in and out of school. Please see the infographic below to learn about the areas of focus.

We are very excited for this opportunity for our students to learn skills that will support them at school, at home, and in the community. If you have any questions about Second Step, please don’t hesitate to contact your child's teacher for more information. Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.
