United Women in Faith
As many of you may be aware, I am the National Chair of the Legacy Fund Steering Committee (one of my assigned duties as a member on the National Board of Directors for United Women in Faith). Since this is one of my prime responsibilities, I want to encourage all of you to check out the National Day of Giving on March 23 on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/umw150.
Day of Giving
On March 23, United Women in Faith’s annual “Day of Giving,” we celebrate and honor the vision of our foremothers by giving to The Legacy Endowment Fund. Together, our gifts help carry forward the work those women began for the benefit of future generations of women, children, and youth. The theme for this year’s Day of Giving is “The Future is Now,” and the first $100,000 in gifts will be matched by the Scranton Women’s Leadership Center. You are invited to join us at the Virtual Facebook event on March 23 and to celebrate the 154th anniversary by giving to The Legacy Endowment Fund. For more information, visit uwfaith.org/dayofgiving/ or contact legacy150@uwfaith.org.

Parish Nurse
The best part about being a Parish Nurse is that I get to deal with the whole person (mind, body, and spirit) not just the physical.
The same could be said for our church. Are we truly focusing on the “whole” church or just parts of it. Don and I receive a weekly missive from Sheila Richards, a retired minister in the Dakotas Conference. She frequently references Rev. Marvin Armbrister, a retired minister living in Arizona, who recently wrote the following about his church in Arizona.
“Leonard Sweet, a theologian and church consultant made an interesting observation. ‘People are not looking for a church, they are looking for a mission.’ I believe he is right on. People want to make a difference. People want to be part of something that truly makes a difference.
To be part of a mission is about being intentional, focused, and determined to make a difference. It is not about being taken care of or having a chaplain in case I need one. It is about having a purpose. It is about discovering meaning in life. It also implies risk and the opportunity to grow in one’s person, perspective, and understanding.
Mission also implies it’s about a journey, not a destination. It’s about a vibrant, changing relationship, not just the status quo.”
So, I want to ask each of you…. What is our mission here at Wesley? What is our purpose?
The United Methodist Church is in the midst of some very difficult decisions about the way we want to do ministry. It is a decision that every United Methodist Church around the world will be deciding in the next few years. We as a total church body as well as individually need to decide who we are and what direction we want to go. Before we do that, I would suggest we need to be in intense prayer to discern how God is leading each of us.
Congratulations Joan Kurth
Congratulations Joan, you are so deserving. You are the best, not just as a volunteer but as a truly loving and giving Christian.
