- Parents, please join us at our upcoming Back to School Night on Thursday, September 28th. We have arranged two separate sessions for any family that may have multiple children in our school to provide an additional opportunity for you to meet their teachers. Session 1 Start Time: 6:00 PM Session 2 Start Time: 7:20 PM
- We are very excited to announce that this school year our first through fifth grade students' reading levels will be assessed using the Developmental Reading Assessment, Second Edition (DRA2). Starting next week our new Literacy Coach, Mrs. Kate Hoppe, will be working with your child to determine his or her independent reading level. Soon, a student reading survey will be making its way to you that is part of this assessment process. It is two sided and we ask that you fill it out at home with your student and return it back to your student's teacher at your earliest convenience. As always we thank you for all you do in improving your student's educational experience!
- Upcoming Virtus Training for potential Parent Volunteers: Virtus Training on Wednesday October 11 at St. Margarets Church from 5 to 7pm
Meet some of our new staff!
Hello! My name is Kate Hoppe. I am Saint Catharine School's new Reading Coach. I received my undergraduate degree from Rider University where I doubled majored in Elementary Education and Spanish. Upon graduation I earned my first teaching job as a third grade, and later first grade, teacher in the Manchester Township School District. I then went on to study at Georgian Court University and obtained my masters degree in Education with a certification as a Reading Specialist. I am married to my wonderful husband, Jeff, and we have 3 very silly and smart daughters. Our oldest daughter is Nora, 7, our middle is Paige, 5, and Ella is 2. We also have a cat named Caesar who is adored by everyone, except my husband because he is allergic to him! I am truly blessed and I am so excited to be apart of the Saint Catharine School team!
Technology Teacher, Amanda Davies: Amanda Davies is overjoyed to be joining the St. Catharine School family as the new technology teacher. Miss Davies was born in Staten Island, New York and attended St. Teresa's school from Pre-K - 8th grade. She moved to Barnegat, NJ in 2009 where she attended Barnegat High School. Miss Davies attended college at Rider University where she received her Bachelors degree in elementary education and theatre studies and a certificate in technology; she graduated with magma cum laude honors. Miss Davies has recently received her Google level 1 certificate as well. In her free time, Miss Davies enjoys attending and watching as much theater as possible and playing with her two cats, Salem and Bubbles. Miss Davies is a part of St. Mary's church in Barnegat, NJ, where she was a CCD teacher while in high school.
STEM Coach, Michael Perez: I am very excited to join the Saint Catharine School community! I was the Technology teacher for 2 years at Midtown Community Elementary School in Neptune. I helped to create a Computer Club for the students to work on different projects like coding. I love teaching, especially challenging students to learn new and creative ideas which they can apply to the real world. I have a B.A Degree in Organizational Management and I am currently working on my Masters in Educational Technology through Central Michigan University. I have two adopted daughters whom I love spending time with and my hobbies include bowling, traveling, visiting college football stadiums and coaching soccer and basketball.
