Cogat Testing at Longfellow Middle School

Please make note on your calendar that children in grades two, four, six, and nine will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test, Form 7, published by Riverside Publishing Company. Longfellow MS 6th grade students will be testing January 24.

If your child is absent, the school will attempt to provide a makeup testing session.
This test helps assess the reasoning abilities and learning needs of our students. Teachers and administrators use the results to adapt instruction to match your child’s learning profile. The test has three sections. Each of the three sections takes approximately 50 minutes to complete. More information can be found at

Student results will be available at the March 9th-10th Parent-Teacher Conference. Any reports remaining at the school after that date will be mailed to the child’s residence. Student results contain confidential information and will not be sent home with students.
Parents can help children perform their best by following these tips:

  • Encourage your child to ask questions before testing begins, if directions are not understood.

  • Calm and reassure your child about testing. Confident children do better on tests.

  • Encourage your child to always do his or her very best on all tasks.

  • Provide a nutritious meal for your child on the morning of testing to enhance his or her testing performance.
