By: Colin Sharpe
The Confederacy
I have joined South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Texas, Virginia, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Tennessee in the Confederate Army. There are around 750,000 to 1.2 Million Soldiers fighting for the Confederacy but we are outnumbered by the Union because they have around 2.6 Million Soldiers fighting for their side. 69% of us are farmers and the Union are mostly factory workers.
The Confederate Beliefs
The Confederacy believed to be their own country and they wanted to secede from the United States. They wanted their own states rights and not to be ruled by a different Government, they wanted to control their own Government.
Important Roles in the Civil War
Robert E. Lee
A Major Leader is Robert E. Lee. He was the South's greatest General during the Civil War. He was from Virginia and was asked by Abraham Lincoln to join and lead the Union Army. He declined Lincoln's Request and joined his state in the Confederacy.
Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was a born a slave. Her owner was Mary Pattison Brodess. She lead slaves to freedom and lead over 300 slaves to their freedom!
Jefferson Davis
The President of the Confederacy is Jefferson Davis. He was also Military Commander of the Confederate Army, Secretary of War, and United States Senator.
3 Major Battles
Fort Sumter
Fort Sumter was located at Charleston Harbor, South Carolina. The Confederates attacked Fort Sumter on April 12-14, 1861. For two days, the battled raged on and Finally, The Confederates defeated the Union at the Fort.
Big Bethel
Big Bethel was fought at Tabb and Hamton, Virginia. The general for the Union was Benjamin F. Butler and for the Confederates, it was John B. Magruder. 1,400 Rebels and 3,500 Yankees. With Such a shocking outcome, the Confederacy took the Win at Big Bethel.
The First Win
The Confederates first win was at Battle Of Bull Run. They attacked the Union's Right flank and the Yankees fell back to Washington. This was an inspiration for the Rebels because they thought the Union was weak at Battle but they had no idea what awaited them.
The War's effect on People
The Civil War not only effected Slavery but it effected the people too. The men who fought, came back traumatised but they sometimes came back without an arm, leg, or they didn't come back at all. Soldiers and Scouts came through people's homes or farms and took cows, horses, food, and men. It wasn't only hard for the soldiers, but it was hard for the people too.
