7th Grade Project Introduction; Mars Challenge
GUIDING QUESTION: How do you create a community within the constraints of engineering and design technology in order to establish a sustained human presence on a planet 140 million miles away from Earth?
DESCRIPTION: Over the next few weeks you will be working in a small group to create a lander, map, flag, constitution, and commercial based on a community you will be creating on Mars. This project will be completed during our state testing window, you will be grouped with other students in your Advisory class. Students will be working on their landers after state testing, in their small groups, supplies will be purchased, and virtual students will be in the building on these days so they will be able to participate in the lander designing and building with their peers. Students will be expected to lead one part of the project for their group on asynchronous days, this means you will need to make sure this part is complete correctly and on time, you will share the materials with your group using google docs or slides, depending on the part that you are leading. Due dates are built in throughout the month of April as are mandatory Office Hours on Wednesday during the month. This is to allow you to budget your time, ask questions, and use your time wisely. Your Advisory teacher is your go to teacher to help you with any questions. This project will be a summative grade for all of your classes, including your electives.
