Introduction to The Pineywoods
Welcome to the Piney Woods! The Piney Woods is a great place for fishing, camping and enjoying the outdoors. The Piney Woods was originally full of Native American tribes. For thousands of years Native Americans lived in the woods of east Texas. Much later Spanish missionaries, French soldiers, African-Americans and settlers from all over the world called East Texas their home, too.
State Parks & National Parks
Caddo Lake State Park and Angelina National Forest. Caddo Lake was the only natural lake in Texas until it was dammed in the early 1900's when oil was found and for flood control in 1914. Caddo Lake got it name from the Caddo Indian's legend shows that these Indians thought that this lake was created from a giant flood. Angelina National Forest was around man 8,000! Angelina National Forest was a settlement in the 1800's and was announced a National Forest in 1934.
