Half Day School
Celebrating Veterans
Half Day students are celebrating Veterans Day through song, study of its history, and learning about individual veterans through personalized interviews and essays. The school joined together to recognize veterans by creating puzzle pieces that when woven together created a larger representation of the event.

Partnerships
Book Fair Approaching
The PTO is looking forward to hosting our annual book fair for students and families as we know
that empowering children to choose their own books in turn makes them more likely to read.
Students will create their book fair “wish lists” in school during library time. Be on the lookout as their wish lists will be sent home.
Save The Date! - We will have open hours for families to visit the book fairs
- Half Day Library: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14
- Sprague Library: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16
Volunteers Needed
We need MANY volunteers to make this event a success! Please volunteer to sign up on the Membership Toolkit website. Anyone who volunteers four hours of their time to the book fair, will receive a 20% discount on all purchases.
Managing the Overuse of Digital Tech in Our Kids
In partnership with the Vernon Area Library, the D103 Parent Education team is excited to bring to our community Dr. Cliff Sussman, a child and adolescent psychiatrist from the Washington D.C. area.
Dr. Sussman is a pioneer in recognizing and treating Internet & video game addiction. He has regularly given presentations to parent and professional communities on this topic. As a leading expert in this field, Dr. Sussman will help parents define what excessive screen use looks like and understand how it can impact the developing brains of their children. Furthermore, he will provide us with definitions of healthy screen time for children and how to balance screen activities with off screen activities. He will discuss strategies on how to use motivational interviewing to talk to our children about topics surrounding screen time and help parents recognize the factors that may be contributing to screen overuse and addiction in their homes.
