"The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, ’The children are now working as if I did not exist.’ "
-- Dr. Maria Montessori
Casino Night 2023
We are so grateful to our supporters, donors, and community members for making our annual fundraiser a success! Please take a moment to check out pictures and read this letter from our founder and visit the events page of our website to see our list of donors!
The money you helped us raise was put to work immediately on the new Morgan Lane fence! The higher metal fence offers more protection for our campus from the street and the new wooden panels offer more privacy for the children playing in the yellow house yard or working in the P1 & P2 outdoor work environments. The new fence and gates in front of the office also offer additional protection from the street, and there will be a new locked walk-in gate with a code for anyone entering the office area from outside of campus.
Construction is still underway but they are almost finished! See photos below for the progress so far...
Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
Although we focus and celebrate the many unique paths and cultures AAPI immigrants and citizens experience, we make time to commemorate those who were affected by or have been lost to anti-Asian violence during the pandemic and throughout history.
Over the years, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have enriched our communities with their successes in the arts. politics, and medicine, along with many other elements in American society. Just back in 2021, Kamala Harris, became the first Asian American to become vice president!
For the Children:
According to one of our favorites, The Conscious Kid, out of all racial groups, API’s and indigenous peoples receive the least attention in school curriculum and textbooks. Here are some great picks to add to your home library!

Pride Week
May 8th-12th
At Athena, we celebrate our entire community and will be celebrating love and individuality the second week of May! Along with our friends at Barton Hills, we have chosen these four
statements as the core to our Pride Week, in which all ages can participate and understand.
All are welcome.
Everyone should be able to be who they are.
Differences are awesome!
Love makes a family.
Wednesday May 10th:
Pride Colors Day: Wear Rainbow!
Field Day
Friday May 12th
Teamwork makes the dream work! Field Day is an opportunity for the children to come together to use their problem-solving skills to complete tasks and for them to have some old school F-U-N in the sun! We will be hosting ours on May 12th so be on the look out for those pictures on Transparent Classroom!
This event is for students only.
ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT
Enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is complete!
There is always a chance of attrition between now and the start of school, especially in our Primary program (3 to 5 year olds). If you have an eligible child in our waiting pool, you can expect to hear from our Admissions Director if a spot opens up for your child over the next few months.
Our continued goal in the admissions process is to be as transparent as possible, and we strive to give you the most accurate information we can during each step of the deliberate process of enrollment. We respect that decisions related to your child's education are important and timely ones, and we will continue to send you general enrollment updates via this monthly newsletter. Thank you for your continued interest, and we encourage you to reach out with specific questions related to your child's enrollment at any time.
Please direct admissions & enrollment questions to our Admissions Director, Joy Jacobson. You can email her directly at Admissions@AthenaMontessoriAcademy.com.
