January 2018 Chalkboard News
A Note from Mr. Bennett
The weeks leading up to the Holidays are filled with so many wonderful acts of kindness. Every year I'm amazed at the community in which I live and work. Again this year, our sharing tree was dedicated exclusively to Amanda Moore families in need. Thank you to Mrs. LoGrasso, Mrs. Kraemer and Mrs. Garland for all their hard work to organize and execute such and important Amanda Moore tradition. A special thank you to all who took tags and helped to make Christmas a whole lot brighter for so many families.
Our Romeo High School Link Crew adopted two Amanda Moore families as well as other families throughout the district. Thank you so much to Mr. Boggio, Mrs. Knoblock and all the students who dedicated their time and money to help families within our community. The Romeo High School Student Council spent $4,800 buying brand new coats for children in need throughout the district. Thanks to Mr. Hinkle, Mrs. Adamo and the students for taking care of our district elementary students in need, especially with the frigid start to 2018. Please check out the two photos below from the Romeo High School Twitter Page. The first is Link Crew the second is Student Council.
"Make a Difference" Award
The “Make a Difference” Award is given on an annual basis to individuals who have made a significant positive impact on the educational experience of a student with special needs.
If you have a child with a current IEP and know of a special educator that has had a significant positive impact on your child’s learning and would like them to be recognized for it, please fill out the attached. The completion of the attached nomination form is a very important first step in the selection process.
Green School Environmental Tip
It’s the time of year when homes have their highest energy demand of the year. Heating accounts for 34% of all annual utility usage and is part of what makes an average home twice the emitter of carbon dioxide emissions than a vehicle. Here is a way to reduce the demand for expensive space heating. CHECK THE DUCTS: To ensure that as much warm air as possible is delivered through your central system, check the ductwork and wrap any leaks with duct mastic. Distribution losses (what’s lost while air is transported from your furnace through ductwork to the vents) often amounts to 30%. So sealing ductwork could increase efficiency and the warm air you receive considerably….keeping you warmer and making your furnace work less.
