ADAMS APPLE – FEBRUARY 2019
Welcome to winter! It has arrived in full force. Thank you to everyone for your help at home with our first two eLearning days this past week. If your child/ren did not have the chance to complete the work that was assigned through Google Classroom, please be sure to have them do that by next week. If your child needs a paper copy of the work please request one from your child’s teacher. Students have one week to complete the work. Once the work is finished for that day, the student is counted as present. If the work is not completed one week later, the student will be counted absent for that day. Our next planned eLearning day will be Monday, Feb. 18th.
Attached to this newsletter you will find the Digital Citizenship flyer detailing an upcoming event about Digital Citizenship. Topics will include general online safety, cyberbullying, and others. This event is for all parents of Franklin Township students. It will be held at Franklin Central in the Mason Auditorium on Wednesday, February 13th, starting at 6:30 p.m. Stephanie Nancarrow from the Indiana State Police will lead the presentation. After her presentation, FTCSC will share some information about our use of Bark and how we will be signing up parents for notifications if their child does something that would warrant them knowing.
February 8th is our next meeting for All Pro Dads. Please sign up online if you plan to attend so we can have an idea of how many are attending.
Adams has its annual Spelling Bee on Jan. 24th. Congratulations to the winner, 4th grader Joseph Siam! First runner-up was 4th grader Sherry Sung, and second runner-up was 4th grader Harkeerat Kaur. Well done, students! Joseph will represent Adams Elementary at the district spelling bee on Wednesday, Feb. 20th, at FTMS-West at 6 PM. Best wishes, Joseph!
Adams Elementary will be represented at the VEX IQ robotics competition on Saturday, Feb. 16th that will be held at College Park Church Castleton. We have two teams – one comprised of 4th graders and one team of 5th graders. They have competed in two competitions to date and are ranked highly in the state; out of more than 900 teams in Indiana the fourth-grade team is ranked 172 and the fifth-grade team is ranked 110! These students have been working since late October and are very excited about the upcoming contest. Good luck, robotics teams!
Adams Elementary will also be represented at the MATH Bowl on Thursday, Feb. 21st, at Custer Baker Intermediate School at 5 PM. This is a first for Adams Elementary! A team of fifth-grade mathletes has been working hard during recess and after school and will compete on 2/21. Good luck, mathletes!
Our next PTS meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 12th, at 7 PM in the media center at Adams. I encourage you to attend. We will be doing a lot of planning for the Spring Fling. This is a huge event that requires a lot of brainpower for new ideas and manpower for execution.
Adams Elementary will be celebrating Kindness Week Feb. 11 – 15. We will have various activities and areas of focus each day that week.
All students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart on Friday, Feb. 22nd, during their related arts time. This is a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Additional information is included in the newsletter. Last year Adams raised over $10,000 with this event! The goal this year is to meet and exceed that amount. Ms. Roberts has shared with the students some fun incentives.
Finally, if your child is participating in the Waterford online program you should have received an email from Waterford inviting you to activate the at-home accessibility. I urge you to take advantage of this program as often as time allows. It has been proven to help close gaps and produce better and more fluent readers. If you need another activation email please reach out to your child’s teacher.
Whew – February is the shortest month of the year, but we are making every day count!
Thank you for your continued support at home in reading and completing reading logs to document the efforts. Readers are leaders!
Kind regards,
Jaci Greig
