OASC FIRST
JULY 2020
JULY MEANS NEW FISCAL YEAR!
The link for OASC membership registration as well as the link for Virtual OASC State Convention registration does not open until August 1, 2020. However, once you register for membership, you will be emailed an invoice--so it's always good to have your PO in place first. The link for state convention registration accompanies your OASC membership registration invoice email--so don't delete it. Further information about the Virtual OASC State Convention will come out in the August OASC First.
You will not be allowed to register for state until you have registered for OASC membership.
Normally the 2020 State Officer Election Forms are made available in August, but due to changing over to virtual, we want you to have access to how elections will work this year as soon as possible. Please click the link below for access to the 2020 election forms.
This year, speeches will be uploaded to youtube (with comments turned off) and the links will be posted three weeks prior to the convention on both the OASC and state convention website and voting delegates will vote at the conclusion of the first general session which will start on Saturday, November 7th at 1 pm. There will only be two general sessions this year. All virtual state convention activities will take place on Saturday and Sunday only. The first general session taking place Saturday, November 7th at 1 pm will include a speaker and the business session. The second and last general session starting Sunday, November 8th at 2 pm will include a speaker, recognition ceremonies and election results.
Campaign booths will be replaced by information provided on a google doc form (video and written info). The Google Doc Campaign Booth template will be placed with the 2020 OASC State Officer virtual election forms at oascok.org by August 1st. Just as in previous years, campaigning does not begin until the campaign booths are active (posted on the website--Oct 16th) and ends when the first general session starts at 1 pm on Saturday, November 7th (due to our standing rule of not campaigning in general sessions).

OKLAHOMA STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION RETURN TO LEARN GUIDANCE
Jason Stephenson, former Deer Creek STUCO Advisor and current Director of Secondary Language Arts at the OSDE sent me the link to the Return to Learn doc. It has good information to consider, especially if your district/site is asking for help with return plans:
The following section on other considerations on page 21 has information that applies to Student Councils:
Pursue virtual activities and events in lieu of field trips, student assemblies, special performances and schoolwide parent meetings and limit group sizes as much as possible.
Limit guests and visitors to the classroom while remaining mindful that parents and families play a vital role in their child’s education; involve guest speakers through virtual means.
Ensure adequate supplies to minimize sharing of high-touch materials to the extent possible (e.g., assigning individual student art supplies and equipment) or limit use of supplies and equipment to one group of children at a time and clean and disinfect between use.
