Kindergarten Connection
August 28, 2020
Welcome to Our School!
From Mrs. Healey
What is the amount of time that my child will be engaged in remote activities?
Teachers will provide students with planned learning experiences that focus on extending learning from face-to-face time, previewing upcoming concepts and practicing extending skills. Students will engage with their teachers on Wednesdays in a synchronous small group meeting. Also, teachers and students will meet for individual synchronous check-ins as scheduled by the teacher.
In addition to the planned learning experiences from their classroom teacher, students will engage in any number of other activities which could include: activities from fine and applied arts teachers, group sessions with our school counselor, lessons from related service providers, special education support, additional reading interventions, and/or English language development support.
How can I find the latest information on health and safety?
What are some of the recent changes to the Kindergarten Academy's Phased Reopening Plan?
All students, staff and visitors are required to wear face masks. This includes while inside and outside MASD buildings and on MASD transportation. Staff will provide face mask breaks to students throughout the day. Staff will allow students to remove face masks:
*When students are eating or drinking and spaced at least 6 feet apart or
*When wearing a face mask creates an unsafe condition in which to operate equipment or execute a task or
*During staff-initiated “face mask breaks” to last no longer than 10 minutes and when students are at least 6 feet apart.
Exceptions from wearing any type of face covering (face masks or face shields) require a doctor’s note and agreement from a 504 or IEP team. As a reminder, if you believe your child qualifies for a face mask exception, you must contact your building’s school nurse ASAP but not later than September 2nd (kbordlemay@mbgsd.org).
Take Home Meals will be provided for those students who wish to have them. The food provided will account for breakfast and lunch for the of remote learning days.
Group B will not have remote learning activities on September 8th. Group B's first day is September 9th.
All classrooms will be thoroughly cleaned every day.

What do I need to know about transportation?
Here is some more information about transportation.
- I will be sending information out about an app that we are going to use to track dismissal and the car line up order at the end of the day. I'll let you know when it is ready to be used.
- Bus drivers will not let students off a bus without an adult present to greet them.
- Car riders and walkers can enter the building at 7:30.
- Doors close at both the Filbert Street entrance and the side door at 7:50 so if you arrive after that, please come in through the main entrance.
- No cars can be in the bus loop in front of the school during arrival and dismissal times.
- Car riders should have their child exit on the passenger side by the sidewalk.
- Car riders should wait to pull up to the first 6 spaces before loading and unloading.
- Students should wear their dismissal tags for the first month of school.
