Harrison's Black History Month Experience
To culminate our Black History Month learning opportunities, students were able to hear from Ohio's Eighth District Court of Appeals Judge, Michael Ryan as he made a quick visit to Harrison. Judge Ryan was a guest speaker several years back when he served as a Juvenile Court Judge in Cuyahoga County. It is our hope that our work this month has extended the knowledge of our students as it relates to Black Americans.
Celebrating and Honoring Women!
We will engage our students in the work around our theme in many ways. Our video announcements, morning announcements, classroom activities that include read alouds and Women's History Bingo, etc. We look forward to sharing next month more details about how we celebrated and honored women!

Harrison's Competency Focus of the Month
With each focused competency, we continue to identify students who have embraced the concept and demonstrate understanding through various formats. Students are recognized for demonstrating their understanding of the competencies each month.
Harrison's DEIB & SEL Experiences
Our Harrison Community Book of Focus for March is Shaking Things Up by Susan Hood. The monthly book is just one of the ways in which we will engage our students and families in our DEIB, SEL, and VOLG experiences. Our March book not only supports our Black History theme, but our Women's History Committee decided to carry the theme over into Women's History Month as well. The book also supports our competency focus for this month, Empathy. The book features 14 young women who changed the world. Please know that you don't have to read about all 14 women, but at least pick a few to learn about together. There will not be an activity sent home with the book due to the numerous experiences we will engage in connected to the book and Women's History during the school day. We anticipate the books will be in soon and we will get the rotation of the book started as soon as they arrive.
