A Note From the Teacher

-We are halfway through the first grading period! Progress reports will go home on Friday, September 23rd. Please take the time to look through the progress report with your child and discuss areas of success and areas that need improvement. Set goals for the remaining weeks of the first grading period. Maybe a goal would be to turn in homework on a more regular basis, or to learn multiplication facts by the end of the grading period. No matter where we are, we can always stretch ourselves and improve.

-Our first study trip of the year will be on Thursday, September 22nd. We are going on the "Canoemobile" on Hobart's Lake George. Please have your child dress for the weather that day! We will return in time for lunch, so students will eat as they normally do. For more information about this trip, visit the following: http:/

-Please remember to check with Class Dojo on a regular basis. If you have not signed up, you still can.

-If you haven't signed up for Remind messages, please do so. It is easy and keeps you informed.

-Please notify me if you have questions or concerns:

Language Arts

This week in reading we will focus on identifying and using nonfiction text features like titles, subtitles, captions, maps, graphs, etc. to help us understand our social studies text.

We will not read a new story in our Journeys books.

Grammar Skill: Kinds of Sentences

DLR Quiz on Friday: Each Thursday students should bring home 4 half-sheets of orange paper with our morning work on them. Students should study the corrected sentences and be ready to take the quiz over them on Fridays.

This week we will continue our first unit in math. We will learn about the commutative property of multiplication and discover division as sharing.

-Please continue to practice math facts at home. Students can go to FASTT Math on the Cool Tools section of the School City of Hobart webpage (bookmarked on the chromebooks) as well as the XTRA math website to help them study addition facts. Of course, flash cards are also very helpful.

-We will have another 5 minute addition test on Friday.

-Any student that did not score 85 or higher on the 5 minute test last Friday will receive a practice packet which is due on Friday, Sep 23rd.
