Newsletter 4 March 2022
Rosehill College
From the Principal,
Tēnā koutou katoa,
Year 11 students will be rostered home for the week beginning 7 March. This is to ensure that we have enough staff onsite to supervise learning and keep our students safe.
All other students are expected to be at school unless they are self-isolating or unwell.
Year 10 students will be rostered home for the week beginning 14 March. Students under the age of 14 years, who cannot be supervised at home, are to come to school and will be supervised to follow the same distance learning programme as though learning from home. If a Year 10 student comes to school to be supervised, they are at school for the full day unless they become sick during the day.
As with many other organisations, we have a number of staff, both teachers and support staff, who are required to isolate. This may mean that we are unable to respond to queries as promptly as usual. If you have an emergency during school hours and have not received a response to your communication, please email principal@rosehillcollege.school.nz giving your son’s or daughter’s name, your contact details and a brief description of the emergency.
Thank you to all who have contacted the school with absence notifications. If you are using the School App, emailing or leaving a phone message, please state the following details:
Date of first symptoms or date of first positive test result for the household member.
Whether the student has tested positive or a household member
Type of test used (RAT or PCR).
If you need to collect your child during the day please ring 295 0661 and dial 2 for the Student Office. Do not text your child to leave class.

Dropping Off and Picking Up Students
Would all parents and caregivers please avoid driving into the school’s car park areas to drop off or pick up students before and after school, as it is unsafe to have cars driving through the grounds at those very busy times. Similarly, please don’t stop or park on the yellow lines near our gates as traffic infringement notices may be issued.

Pānui Hakinakina (Sports Bulletin)
Sport is starting to gain momentum and the next few weeks are filling up fast with trials for most of our winter teams starting to take place. Please make sure you check the student notices daily, along with emails, to ensure you know when trials have been set. If you are unable to attend due to isolation requirements please contact us as soon as possible. Failure to just not attend a trial may mean you are ineligible to make the team.
Now that sign ups have finished we need to start finding coaches and managers for all the teams. Thank you to those parents who have already contacted me. If you think you might be interested please contact me on n.bailey@rosehillcollege.school.nz. We are still looking for coaches and managers for Junior Boys Basketball, Senior Boys Basketball, Junior Netball (multiple teams), Rugby (particularly junior teams), and Junior Boys Football (possible second team).

Vaccinations
Many of you will have been following the changes to the requirements for school sport closely. The following is the most up to date information we have from Sport NZ;
Legislation has not yet been passed to allow all 12-17 year olds to participate without a vaccination pass. The Government have indicated that this will be in place no later than 15 March. As soon as it has passed, Sport NZ will update their School Sport & Recreation Guidelines on their website.
The legislation will allow all school students to participate in school sports, regardless of their vaccination status, from when the legislation is enacted.
Requirements will not change for coaches, managers, volunteers and spectators.
The gathering/event rules will remain the same under red guidelines, e.g. 100 in a gathering, not 25, including the need for spectators to provide vaccine passes, if applicable.
If facilities, including council and non-council, accept bookings from schools they will be unable to ask for the vaccination status of the students.
Hoodies
The school Sports Hoodie is available to be ordered from the Sports Office. To be able to purchase a Hoodie you must belong to a school sports team which competes in a season or a national tournament. Hoodies are $65 and this charge is placed on a student's account once they have sized their hoodie. Hoodie orders are not placed until they have been paid for and usually take approximately one week to arrive. These can be worn as school uniform and as such cannot have anything else added to them. Please do not have a name added to the back of these as that means they can no longer be worn at school as part of the uniform. The students' initials are placed where the white box is for identification purposes.
