Understanding and Communication with Your Adolescent

This training is targeted to parents and will provide an understanding of the different aspects of adolescent development that are typical versus potential red flags for issues that can arise, including substance abuse issues or mental health issues. Communication tips will also be provided. This session will be presented by Dr. Nancy Razo.

Love 146 Caregiver Training

Develop a basic understanding of human trafficking, commercial sexual exploitation, and vulnerabilities. Participants will also learn about safety planning with youth and resources available. Participants will demonstrate knowledge of accommodations and strategies to enhance access to the school curriculum as well as to language and communication at home for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (D/HH). Auditory, visual, and communication access through accommodations and strategies will be discussed.

Eating Right When Money is Tight

This lovely class is for parents/caregivers seeking to stretch their food dollars and save that hard-earned dough. Join this “sweet sesh” and we will happily prepare an arrangement of tips, ideas, and resources. We cannot gift our beautiful participants a box of chocolates, but we won’t forget to bring healthy recipes, that may include chocolate and/or desserts. This session will be presented by Tracy West, Nutrition Education Coordinator, from the San Antonio Food Bank.

Visual Supports in the Home

This session will provide information to use visuals for your child’s receptive and expressive needs. Communication is the key and visuals are especially important if your child is not yet communicating. Use visuals to prepare daily schedules and provide directions for chores. Visual support can be a game changer.

This session is conducted in Spanish.

El amor y la lógica es un enfoque para criar a los hijos que brinda un apoyo amoroso de los padres, al mismo tiempo que espera que los niños sean respetuosos y responsables. El amor permite que los niños crezcan a través de sus errores. La lógica les permite vivir con las consecuencias de sus decisiones. Amor y Lógica es fácil de usar, cría hijos responsables y cambia vidas. Al asistir a esta capacitación, aprenderá a utilizar el humor, la esperanza y la empatía para desarrollar su relación adulto-niño, proporcionar límites reales de manera amorosa y aprender a enseñar las consecuencias y la toma de decisiones saludables.
