Planned Activities
This time is set aside for arriving, greeting our colleagues from other sites, and getting settled.
8:00-8:10 AM: Welcome and Announcements
Kick-off of our day; introduce our new coordinator, Tracy Bryant
8:10-9:25 AM: Integrated ELD with Staci Ortiz and Friends!
Staci and Friends will introduce upgrades to monitoring documents, solidify navigation of the ELD Standards landscape, and introduce interactive strategies to use with all learners.
9:25-9:40 AM: Break
This is where we, well, break.
9:40-11:40 AM: Active Learning Strategies in Social Science
Literacy expectations and the introduction of a new Framework are bringing changes to our field. Teachers will learn of field-related options that can be used with an upcoming unit, followed by subject-alike collaboration. Subject teams select an option(s) to align to existing ELOs and develop a mini-Unit Guide that can be implemented soon. (Have access to your department's ELOs for this portion.)
11:40 AM-12:40 PM: Lunch (on your own)
Feel free to explore lunch options at the nearby Del Mar Highlands or at restaurants off of Camino del Sur. Lunch options are also available at Panera Bread Company, at Starbucks, and at Trader Joe's, located right across from CCA.
12:40-2:15 PM: Strategic Formative Assessment Strategies, with Guen and Mark
Guen will start this session by highlighting some of the available options for using formative assessments that align well to the Social Science setting. Course alike groups will then collaborate to use their newly planned mini-Unit Guides to develop an assessment (or assessments, if you're so inclined) that can be used for the upcoming unit.
2:15-2:30 PM: Goal Setting for 2016-2017
This brief session will allow our colleagues to provide input and feedback that chairs will use when planning goals and areas of focus for the next school year.
