FMS BLAST
Monday, November 8th, 2021
Dear Parents,
Even though we are still battling the effects of Covid it is interesting to note that it did not take long for everyone to get right back into a hectic life filled with extra-curricular activities while keeping extremely busy with commitments. It seems we are geared toward overwhelming ourselves with work and life and expecting the same from our children. Their lives are filled with school, homework, sports, and loads of outside activities. As we draw closer to the holiday season, I think it might be a good reminder to all of us to reflect on the positive aspects of when we first went out due to the pandemic. Remembering how we noticed that slowing down a bit was a welcomed aspect of the situation. Students during that time shared how they enjoyed the family time and appreciated how the focus went from running around feeling busy all the time to just enjoying the down time and being with their family. The simpleness of the situation reminded us that we are human beings and not human doings! So, as we gear up for the holiday season, I think it is a good reminder for us all to slow down, appreciate the family time, spend time talking to our children, and letting them know how valued they are. Take some time to play games, eat together without devices in our hands, and focus on family relationships. I guarantee these are the memories that your children will cherish as they get older. Spending family time together is never wasted time.
I wish you all a very special week. Remember, Thursday is a holiday, but we do have school on Friday. As always, thank you for your partnership in education.
Warmly,
Dr. Terri Daniels

OPPORTUNITY FOR FMS GIRLS: BECOME INVOLVED WITH TECHNOVATION!
What is Technovation?
Girls for a change.
v Technovation Girls program equips young women (ages 8-18) to become tech entrepreneurs and leaders. With the support of volunteer mentors and parents, girls work in teams to code mobile apps that address real-world problems.
https://www.technovation.org/about/
v IMPACT –Empower underrepresented groups to be leaders and creative problem-solvers through technology and engineering education that focuses on girls, families, and communities.
Nithya Ponnada would like to start a competition group here for FMS Girls to compete in the Technovation for Girls Competition.
The goal is to identify a problem in the community and develop an app to address the concern.
Coding knowledge is helpful, but not necessary. A desire to make a difference is all that is needed. If you think your daughter would like to participate, please contact Nithya directly as online planning will begin soon.

Returning to FMS……LUNCH WITH THE PRINCIPAL!
This month, beginning with Grade 8, there will be a LUNCH WITH THE PRINCIPAL opportunity for students to meet with Dr. Daniels and share student voice on matters that concern students.
Students are encouraged to register in their advisory classes for the opportunity to participate as space is limited to 25 students per group. The first LUNCH WITH THE PRINCIPAL will be Wednesday, November 10th. Lunch will be provided for the students. Please encourage your 8th grader to sign up as their voice matters.
In the past these lunches were very popular, and we hope they will remain so, as Dr. Daniels wants to hear from students on their needs, interests, and wishes for FMS.
