From The Principal
We welcome April this week. As we complete the month of March our students focus on the character trait of perseverance. When you consider the meaning - I can only marvel at how the Collins community has been steadfast in our purpose in spite of difficulty or obstacles.
We have eight weeks to continue to work hard and stay focused on learning. The third grading period report card is found in our Parent Access (PAC). We also continue to focus on safety procedures. Thank you for your continued support in doing all the things that keep us all healthy.
Have a wonderful upcoming week,
Shelli LeBlanc

Mr. Barnhart Updates
Hello everyone! I just wanted to take a moment to give a couple quick reminders about the end of the year. First, as I’m sure you all know, STAAR is coming! I have received a few phone calls about whether or not virtual students need to take the STAAR test and the answer is yes. The data we get from the STAAR test is critical for identifying areas for improvement and with all that has happened over the last year that is more important now than ever before. Second, attendance is also extremely important right now, for both in-person students and our virtual learners. Our teachers are working hard to make sure our students are ready for STAAR and while I know some things are unavoidable I’m asking that we do all we can to make sure our students are at school to receive instruction. Third, I have to thank all of you for your continued support with our safety measures. Our students have done a phenomenal job with sanitizing and wearing their masks. I know this doesn’t happen without your support so thank you!
Please stay safe and help us make it a great end to the 2020-2021 school year!
Mr. Barnhart
Mrs. McCure & Ms. Aymond Counselor Updates
The Colossal Cobra theme for March was Perseverance. 6th grade awards will be during lunches on Monday, March 29, and 5th grade awards will be during lunches on Tuesday, March 30. Virtual Students will meet via Zoom on Wednesday, March 31 at 2:00.
The Colossal Cobra theme for April is Courage.
Guidance lessons for 5th and 6th grade will be during homeroom class the week of April 12 - 16.
6th GRADE PARENTS
6th Grade Parents - Students can see their course in Student Access (SAC) for KNOX. If a student needs to make a change, the student must do so before May 1, 2021.
The parent of the student must email the student’s counselor at KNOX to make the change.
Students with last name
- A-F have Pamela Hollis - phollis@conroeisd.net
- G-M have Kristina Spencer - kespencer@conroesisd.net
- O-Z have Jenny Wheeler - jawheeler@conroeisd.net
Gingham Girls application deadline has been extended to March 30. Please see the front office for an application.
For students going into 7th grade 2021-2022 and are wanting to do Off Campus Physical Education (OCPE) or also known as Private PE or Off Site PE - parents need to complete student enrollment online by going to Conroe ISD’s website under Physical Education and clicking on Off Site PE. The agency/vendor MUST be on the CISD approved list. The window for enrollment opened March 15, 2021 and closes May 1, 2021. Parents, please know that OCPE is a year long commitment. You can not change vendors without prior approval from the CISD Coordinator of Physical Education. The vendor is responsible for sending your child’s grades on time, or your child will receive a zero for the grading cycle. You can only participate with one vendor - splitting time between vendors is not permitted. Completing the course selection form for Knox does NOT enroll you in OCPE. For questions you may email the Knox Off-Campus Private PE contact, Ms. Laura Olsen, at lolsen@conroeisd.net. Thank you!
Nurse Kendall Updates:
Parents of 6th graders: please continue to send in vaccination records of your students if they received the Tdap (tetanus booster) and MCV4 (meningitis vaccine) at their last check-up. If they haven’t gotten these vaccines yet, make plans to get them done before 7th grade. These 2 vaccines are required and your students will not be able to pick up their schedules until done. This also applies to Conscientious Objector affidavits. If they are set to expire before August 2021, your student will not be allowed to come to school until a new one is filled out and notarized. They are good for 2 years. You can send the record to me and I will input the information and it will move on to Knox at the end of the year. If you’re not sure if your child needs them, please reach out to me, I can check and let you know. nkendall@conroeisd.net
I hope everyone had the chance to view the growth and development videos with your students over spring break. 5th grade parents, your students will view the same material next year as 6th graders. If you missed it, the link to the videos is: https://www.pgschoolprograms.com/Parents
Technology Updates:
Collins Chromebooks:
We are continuing to collect Chromebooks that are owned by Collins Intermediate and were checked out by students who were “virtual” learners and now are “in person” learners. Please help us by returning the Chromebook, along with the charger. Your student can bring it to their Home Room teacher.
Help With Phone Use:
Many parents are struggling with helping their students manage phone usage. Read this article for tools to help them resist the urge to constantly be on their phones. It may also help you!
Library Updates
National Library week is coming soon. Be on the lookout in Canvas for ways to celebrate the awesome things that happen in the Collins Library. Here’s a great article with some myths about libraries.
Collins School Supplies 2021-2022
Lost and Found Items
There are so many good looking jackets, hoodies, etc. in our Lost and Found!
Some were picked up just before Spring Break, but we still have plenty that need their owners! Please look at the 3 photos below to see if you recognize one (or two, or three!)
We would love these items to go back to their original owners by Friday, April 16th!
Items that are not picked up by then will be donated to a local charity so that they can find new owners!
