How to check your student's grades:
- Integration with the Assignments and Quiz functions within Canvas (auto grading, streamlined feedback, peer editing).
- Instant and improved communication with students on their assignment grades.
- Observer view (Parent view) allows for the parent to see grades and have access to the content as well as teacher comments.
- Uniformity of Canvas gradebook use across campus.
- Parents can still use TxConnect for a “big picture” look at a student’s grade and use Canvas for a detailed contextual look at student’s grades.
- In many cases, parents can access the actual assignment turned in by their student. This eliminates student responses of “I turned it in.” and “I’m not sure why I got a bad grade.”
Parents can create a Canvas Parent account by clicking and following the steps found here. An even easier option is to have your student log in to their Canvas account and show you their current assignments and grades.

Amazing opportunity for parents coming September 19!
Carolyn Brown, of Hey Dude, Nice Shoes, will be presenting to parents on Wednesday, September 19, at 6:30 pm in the PAC. Her presentation focuses on proactive and effective supports and solutions for parents on issues such as bullying and cyber-bullying. If you missed her amazing presentation last year, you will want to make plans to attend!
Carolyn Brown started speaking to groups about parenting perspective about six years ago. A word kept bubbling up in her discussions...Bullying. She would hear it on the radio, read it in the headlines and see it on the news.
Why is this suddenly such an epidemic and WHAT makes it different now?
In the past two years she has developed an anti-bullying/ pro-kindness workshop for students and their parents. "Hey Dude, nice shoes" is a presentation geared at educating parents about the who, what, when, where, whys and hows of Bullying. She has traveled all over the state delivering this message to thousands of students and their parents. Her goal is to educate and inspire children and adults alike to be the change and make a positive difference in our world. She covers everything from basic definitions and policies to recent legislation pertaining to bullying in schools. Through personal stories...and some hilarious pictures...she makes one relatable point - we are all human. We all are fighting a battle that no one knows anything about and we all can take a moment to be kind.
If you have a senior...
Parents - be sure to have your seniors send in their baby pictures to lvbabypics19@gmail.com to make sure they are in the Senior Slide show at graduation and the yearbook!

AP Corner
Viking Nation knows what it means to have spirit.
I see it on Tuesday and Thursday nights. I see it on Fridays. This is somewhat expected, especially during the fall season in the state of Texas.
But.....
it is evident everywhere here at Lago Vista. I see it with volleyball, cheer, cross country, band and.... wait for this.........academics!
I also see it in clubs and organizations.
Lastly, which is amazing to me. I see it in behavior. Students are showing their spirit by self-policing their environment. If someone sees someone behaving inappropriately, they attempt to correct it.
Beware, those with mischief intentions, big or little brother or sister have spirit. I will find out from the them any mischief intentions and there will be consequences.
I like that kind of spirit. How about you?
Attendance Matters.
Our schoolwide attendance goal for this year is 97%. Our state funding is based on the percentage of students at school at 10:15 am every day. Higher attendance rate = more money for resources for your student.
For students who exceed our 96% goal, we are planning some more exciting rewards this year, such as a movie in the PAC, Kona Ice, and exam exemptions!
For students who miss school, here is some very important attendance information:
3 or more unexcused absences in a 4 week period - warning letter sent home and phone call from the principal.
10 or more unexcused absences in a 6 month period - truancy charges are filed. Parent, student and school administrator will be summoned to appear in truancy court.
Our campus goal is to reach 97% attendance each day.
Thanks for your support!
