Mustangs in the Middle : Week of November 16, 2020
From the desk of Mrs. Boytim, Principal of SMS
On Monday SMS will remain in Blended learning and transition into LIVE instruction for at home student for "out" days. Students will report to school on their Green and White day and access their classes live and asynchronously on alternate days.
Asynchronous Days: Days students are home accessing class online
- Asynchronous Days ("out days") Students will access all of their classes virtually from 7:55-3:00
- Students will access their class Google Meet for each class to account for their attendance and to participate in live instruction. There is no live Google Meet for lunch and academic labs.
- Google Classroom will continue to be available for resources, assignments, reminders and taped lessons. This is also the location for students to access their class' meet.
- Attendance- student attendance will only be taken when a student accesses the meet during their class time. Students need to plan appropriately to be in the meet on time and be present in the class. Work completion will only reflect the student's grade, no longer will work completion account for both grades and attendance. Students need to turn work in when its due.
It is our Districts goal to provide high quality education and learning opportunities for all students. We are making great attempts to transform our Blended Learning practices so that all students can have an opportunity to effectively and positively interact with teachers, their classroom and content, whether they are in school or at home. Thank you for your grace and patience as our teachers and students make this transition.

Meal Box Program - For ALL Strongsville Families
The United States Department of Agriculture is partnering with farmers, ranchers, fresh fruit & vegetable growers, food processors and distributors, and non-profit organizations to ensure that all Americans have access to the fresh fruit and wholesome food during the COVID-19 national emergency.
HOW IT WORKS:
- FARMERS sell food previously destined for restaurants and bulk purchasers to distributors, preventing waste.
- DISTRIBUTORS partner with USDA to package family sized boxes with fresh meals and then transport them to non-profits across America.
- FAMILIES pick up free 40 pound meal boxes from schools, food banks, faith-based organizations, and other non-profits.
Strongsville City Schools have been given the opportunity to take advantage of this awesome opportunity. We will distribute the meal boxes at Strongsville Middle School (9:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.) on 11/16, 11/23, 11/30, 12/7 and 12/14. Distribution of the meal boxes will occur at Door E (along the football field/track side of the building / cars must enter on the south side of the building and travel around the entire back of the building, to access Door E).
This meal box program is open to all SCS families. If you would like to receive a meal box, please click HERE to sign up for next Monday's (11/16) distribution. The deadline to submit the form for this upcoming meal box distribution is 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th. PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST FILL OUT A SEPARATE FORM FOR EACH STUDENT IN YOUR FAMILY. There is a limited amount of meal boxes available each week. Families must sign up each week - emails will be sent on each Tuesday prior to the following Monday distribution.
Meal boxes will be placed directly in your trunk so be prepared to open your trunk upon our volunteers request. Volunteers will be wearing masks, sanitizing surfaces and taking necessary safety precautions. Meal box recipients are required to wear facial coverings.
