Getting to Know Canvas
As we begin our journey in blended learning and in Canvas together, we are truly excited to provide a unique window into various learning experiences for your child. Our number one priority right now for Canvas is to make it as user-friendly, accessible, and relevant as possible. Teachers are working hard to start by making Canvas an easy experience for parents and children. Over time, as we grow in this journey, the on-demand learning experience will evolve and be enriched.
Right now is the perfect time to explore Canvas with your child. The more you sit alongside your child and allow them to explore Canvas now, the easier it will be for your child later when the learning content becomes more challenging. In time, using Canvas will be second nature for your child.
A good "homework" activity for families right now would include:
- Practicing logging in to the Chromebook with your child
- Practicing logging in to Canvas with your child
- Navigating and exploring Canvas with your child
- Encouraging your child to take ownership of this experience
Time invested in this now will pay huge dividends later.

Other Parent Features of Canvas
There are additional parent features for Canvas. Once you have your child's Canvas account established, you can begin to set these features up so that you can keep track of virtual learning that is taking place.
Below is a link for directions on how to become a parent observer in Canvas, as well as how to begin using the Canvas app on your smart phone as a parent observer.

On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, there is a live virtual zoom meeting with a specials teacher.
On Wednesday, there is on-demand content for one specials class (rotating each week). Please continue reading for more details about how this will work.
Specials material--whether it is a Zoom link or learning activities--will only be available on the Canvas page for the specials teacher.
Wednesday On-Demand Specials Activity
Each week, students can engage in one on-demand specials activity that is scheduled for students. The specials focus will rotate each week. For example, the on-demand activity for this week will be for music. Next week, it will be for art. Please see the rotation schedule below.
Students can find this activity by going to the Canvas page for the assigned specials. Please watch this video so you can learn how to access the on-demand Music content for this week. It will be a similar process for Art, Physical Education, and iCenter in the weeks to follow.
