Take Flight State of the Class

May Edition

Progress Reports

Progress reports for the 5th six weeks of Take Flight went home this week! As always, two copies were included--one for you to keep, and one to sign and return. This will be the last progress report that goes home for the Take Flight program, but I am currently brainstorming the best way to share the overall growth each student has made with our families. I will be sure to communicate what I come up with as soon as I have a plan! :)

Summer Practice

I have had MANY of you express how committed you are to keeping your child's momentum going throughout the summer. First, I thank you sincerely for not only recognizing that the work will still need to continue throughout the summer months, but for also committing to helping your child put in the work so that they're new learning isn't lost.

I have created a packet for each student to take home over the summer. It includes instant words, rate practice, handwriting practice, and fun websites meant to keep those skills fresh and ready to go come August. You are free to use whatever schedule you see fit to balance fun summer activities with maintaining the growth your child has made--the most important thing to do EACH day is to have your child read (themselves or listening to a fluent reader) for at least 15 minutes every day.

If you have questions about the packet, or would like suggestions on ways to pace the work daily, please let me know and I'd be happy to help!

Netflix Documentary Sheds Light on Dyslexia

I recently watched a documentary on Netflix called The Big Picture: Rethinking Dyslexia. I must say, it was a FABULOUS watch that gave a small glimpse into what it's like for a person with Dyslexia. I highly recommend watching!

Don't have a Netflix subscription?? No worries! You can sign up for a free month trial at https://www.netflix.com/getstarted?forceCountry=US. You WILL have to enter in payment information, but you can cancel at anytime without any fees.
