Mrs. Tuttle's CAP Class ~ Shields Elementary

Class Mission Statement

We, the SHIELDS CAPtains, will participate in advanced learning, continuously grow, and move on to the next grade level, by being responsible, doing our best, working together, and learning from our mistakes.

The Secret Garden

We've started our literature unit which is focusing on CHANGE! We will be reading "The Secret Garden" together, participating in group discussions and learning activities. Please be sure your child stays up to date with their reading!
Class Blogs

We've been practicing our writing skills as we started our blogs. Check them out!

Factors, Multiples, and Leftovers

All students completed two math pre-assessments last week that were used to help inform where we should start the year in math. After reviewing the data, it looks like we will begin this year with some multiplication magic. Students will be developing their multiplication reasoning power. We will construct, deconstruct, analyze, and visualize physical and pictorial areas of models of multiplication. 5th graders will be moving quickly using this unit as a refresher from 4th. For 4th graders this will be a great unit to jump in to 4th grade numbers and operations standards. As we get the unit going, we will begin to break into smaller groups to ensure everybody's needs are being met.

This week, we started reading "7 Habits of Happy Kids" and discussing the first habit, which all about being proactive. Every person is in charge of their own choices. Talk to your child about he/she can be proactive at home!

Our first homework packet came home this week and all work is due on Monday. Hopefully the choice board worked for everybody. Each week will follow this format with the activities varying each week. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about homework.
