Experience
2013 - 2014
4th Grade Teacher at Indian Creek Elementary (LISD)
Seeking a new challenge I joined a very successful fourth grade team and returned to teaching all subjects to my one class. While I feel confident that the year has taught me so much and helped me to grow as an educator, I can honestly say that it has shown me my true love of focusing on one or two subjects! I am very ready to return to a team-teaching setting and focus on my subject passions: Reading and Social Studies!
2003 - 2013
5th Grade Teacher at Indian Creek Elementary (LISD)
For the ten years from 2003 to 2013, I had the pleasure of teaching all subjects to a heterogenous mix of students. I have worked with a broad spectrum of learners, following all recommendations from special programs including: Special Education, English as a Second Language, and LEAP. From 2007 to 2013, I worked with teammates in a team-teaching situation. I taught my homeroom class Language Arts and Spelling then taught two sections of Reading and Social Studies. I have enjoyed the freedom to create my own reading units incorporating all ELAR TEKS and all levels of the revised Bloom's Taxonomy Can Do's, integrating Reading, Social Studies, Writing, and Vocabulary Study.
2002 - 2003
4th Grade Teacher at Gunstream Elementary (Frisco ISD)
After completing my student teaching in Frisco ISD, I was hired to teach fourth grade at one of their new campuses. I learned so much during my first year from the very experienced faculty they brought together to open the new school. I felt very welcomed into the Frisco ISD family, and have maintained many friendships with colleagues there, but chose to move after one year to Indian Creek, which was much closer to my home in Carrollton at the time.
2001 - 2002
Student Teacher - 2nd Grade at Anderson Elementary (Frisco ISD)
Student Teacher - 5th Grade at Curtsinger Elementary (Frisco ISD)
During my year as a student teacher, I was able to observe two veteran teachers in all aspects of their job. I assisted in planning, assessment, and taught several lessons created by Frisco ISD as well as two units I created for Social Studies and Science in each rotation.
