Henderson County Schools Connect
October 2017
Superintendent Message
We recently received our state assessment scores from the Kentucky Department of Education and are extremely proud of our students and staff for their achievements and success in all assessment areas. The hard work, focus, and the goals we had set in the previous year are reflective in our numbers being higher than state averages in all assessment areas.
Henderson County Schools has extraordinary teachers and staff who are dedicated to our students. They work diligently every day to ensure that our students are receiving the best educational experience. They commit their time, passion, and focus on kids and their learning and what a beautiful outcome it is.

HCS Volunteer Spotlight-Michelle King –Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center
Michelle has a son at Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center. She volunteers in the afternoon while he is in class. Michelle said that she loves being able to be at the school at the same time as her child. She finds volunteering at Thelma B. Johnson very rewarding. Most of her time is spent in the copy room making copies, and sometimes she has the opportunity to help in classrooms and anywhere needed.
Thank you, Michelle, for volunteering and making a difference!

Safe Schools Week October 15th-21st
Kentucky Safe Schools Week is set for October 16-20, 2017. Together we can “Get Involved and Get it Solved” STOP the Bullying! Henderson County Schools and Kentucky Center for School Safety stand on the belief that everybody should enjoy school equally and be treated with respect. Community members, educators, students, and parents are encouraged to get involved during Kentucky Safe Schools Week.
The Kentucky Center for School Safety offers to partner with schools and provide a free online reporting tool, the S.T.O.P! TIPLINE. The tipline encourages students, parents or community members who know of an unsafe situation in school to anonymously pass on that information to school personnel by using a digital format. Check it out at www.kycss.org/stop/resources.php
Getting involved may be volunteering to put up posters in the school halls and on community bulletin boards. It may be noticing a lonely student and asking him/her to eat lunch with you. By taking the online “Get Involved… Pledge Against Bullying” you encourage others and reflect on your personal commitment to stop bullying.
Kentucky Shakespeare to Visit Henderson County Schools
Kentucky Shakespeare, the largest in-school arts education organization in the Commonwealth, will be visiting elementary schools in Henderson and the Thelma B. Johnson Early Learning Center the week of October 23rd. Studies show that incorporating drama education across the curriculum increases social awareness, improves problem-solving skills, and helps students make real-life connections.
