LTISD Classes Resume Tuesday, 2/23
Dear Lake Travis ISD Staff, Parents and Guardians,
After a comprehensive assessment of our school buildings and operating systems district wide, and with water service restored at West Cypress Hills Elementary, all classes, activities and events will resume as scheduled Tuesday, February 23, 2021. This includes both in-person and remote learning for all staff and students. Additionally, all schools and District offices will re-open on Tuesday.
Please note, a boil water notice notice remains in effect for customers of Cypress Ranch Water Control and Improvement District #1 which services WCHE. Rest assured, our Food and Nutrition Services Department has protocols and procedures in place for preparing meals under a boil water notice. Additionally, all in-person students districtwide are encouraged to bring personal water bottles from home as usual.
Please check individual campus websites and monitor email and/or social media postings for additional announcements from school principals, coaches and program sponsors regarding the status of specific campus events and activities for the remainder of the week.
Sincerely,
Paul Norton
Superintendent of Schools
Welcome Back, Tigers!
To say that this past week has been challenging would be a gross understatement. Our staff and community were heavily impacted by the inclement weather and are continuing to assess damages to their homes. Many of our Tiger Family were left without water and/or power. In fact, some still do not have water as of this afternoon.
West Cypress Hills Elementary had no water service until Sunday, February 21. And, that's probably a good thing, because when the water was restored we found that our campus had escaped damaging water leaks. When water service was restored, we had one leak near an air-conditioning unit in one of our attic spaces. Thanks to the rapid response from our LTISD Maintenance team, the leak was quickly repaired without damage to our school.
Although the West Cypress Hills neighborhood is under a boil-water notice, our school doors will be open bright and early tomorrow morning. We are anxious to welcome back our Tigers to both in-person and remote learning. Please remember to send your Tiger(s) to school in the morning with their water bottles. Extra water bottles that you can spare would be helpful. The LTISD is providing drinking water, too, for our staff and students until the boil water instruction is lifted.
Our LTISD Food and Nutrition Services (FANS) team has already inventoried and checked our food supplies to ensure that we have the fuel to keep our Tigers roaring on full tummies tomorrow. The WCHE Fuel Cafe will be open as usual tomorrow.
We know our Tigers may have had different experiences throughout the winter storm. Please rest assured that our staff is ready to welcome our Tigers with open arms and listening ears. If you are concerned that your Tiger(s) may have a specific need upon our return to learning tomorrow, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, Dr. Pesta, Mrs. White, or the classroom teacher(s.)
While many of us experienced difficult and trying conditions, I was comforted by the willingness of our community to support one another. Thanks to our friends and neighbors, those in need were provided food, water, warm places to stay, and other essentials. I feel greatly blessed to be part of this community.
We are Tiger strong...One Team, One Family. And, we are back!

Spring Picture Day Rescheduled for Monday, April 12
On Monday, April 12, we will have photographers from Lifetouch on campus taking our student photos. We are not taking group, class photos this year--individual photos only. Our in-person learners will have photos taken from 8 am until noon. Students will be socially distanced and wearing masks. Students will remove their masks briefly, just long enough to have photos taken.
Remote learners are invited to sign up here and come to the campus to have photos taken between noon and 2 pm on Monday, April 12. Remote learners wearing masks may enter the building via the Library's exterior entrance. Once the photos are taken, they will be returned to parents/guardians waiting at the Library's exterior entrance. We'll post a Lifetouch sign on the fence near that entrance.
