Ripon Cathedral School Update

Adventures at Bolton Castle
RSPCA visit
Volunteers from the RSPCA kindly came into school on Wednesday afternoon to deliver lessons to the Year 5 and 6 classes. They focussed on how you choose a pet and all there is to consider as it is a big responsibility. If your children ever ask you about getting a puppy or a kitten or even something more exotic, it will be worth reminding them of this lesson.
The RSPCA will be back later in the year to deliver a whole school assembly about being safe around dogs, which is something the Parent Forum discussed and thought might be a useful lesson for the children.
Year 4 Welcome Worship
High 5 Netball tournament
SATs meeting for year 2 and 6
Cathedral Choir
On Wednesday, our Year 4 to 6 assembly was led by Andrew Bryden, who is the Cathedral's Organist and Director of Music. He talked about joining the Cathedral Choir and told the children about the trips they could go on, how it is a chance to meet new friends and learn new skills, the snacks they get before each practice and most of all, it's free! If your child is interested, Mr Bryden will be returning to school to 'audition' pupils in a group after half term.
Celebrations at Oscar's!
The holiday club in the half term break is shaping up to be full of celebrations and special days! On Monday, in honour of Chinese New Year, the children will be trying different Chinese foods, experimenting and competing with chopsticks and making Chinese lanterns and a big dragon. On Tuesday, of course they will be making pancakes, and going as a group to the pancake races outside the Cathedral. As Wednesday is Valentine's Day, there will be baking and crafts (which may well involve heart shapes!).
It's not too late to book online to join in the fun! It's £20 for 9am to 5pm or £15 for 9am to 1pm / 1pm to 5pm. Contact Mrs Rich if you have not yet used the online booking system and need some assistance.

A Message from the Cathedral
The Right Reverend Helen-Ann Hartley was installed as the new Bishop of Ripon last weekend in a super service which included Maori songs and chants and the sound of a traditional church choir.
Priests from the Anglican Church in New Zealand led a haka with their British counterparts in traditional Maori style, adding a unique twist to the installation which was enjoyed by all, including some of our pupils, who were presented to the Bishop.
