CSHS Back to School Bulletin
2019-20
Welcome Back, Cougar Staff!
Dear Cougar Family,
Last May, I sat at a playoff baseball game cheering on the Cougars vs. Georgetown at Bombers Field when the teams for the game after ours came trickling in. They were from smaller schools, and seeing them made me reminisce about my own time growing up in a small town. While both school settings have advantages, it led me to think about the educational opportunities our Cougars have at CSHS both in and out of the classroom and to wish that ALL kids had those opportunities (and, frankly, that ALL Cougars took advantage of those opportunities). In that moment, this year's theme was born: ALL IN! ALL COUGARS, ALL DAY, EVERY DAY.
I look forward to our time together in August when we will bring this concept to fruition! Please take a moment before we gather on Thursday afternoon to watch this TedTalk from Gian-Paul Gonzalez, a teacher, regarding his definition of being "ALL IN!"
We have an exceptional staff full of intelligent, innovative, and intrinsically motivated people, and I know you have been pouring your souls into preparing for this school year. I can't wait to see you all soon and have the Cougar Family reunited!
Welcome back! And, as always, COUGAR PRIDE!

Look for emails from central office with information regarding signing up for your departmental district trainings.
*Teaching staff will attend all campus sessions. Other staff will attend the sessions on the first day (Kickoff Rally, Staff Pictures, Schoology Required Trainings, & All In!).
Please note that when attending meetings in which you are representing CSHS to other campuses, such as the Kickoff Rally, New Teacher University, and district subject area meetings, we wear professional attire. When we are together for in-house meetings, casual attire is fine. If you'd like to change clothes for our Thursday afternoon session, you are welcome to do so. We'll be on the move!
**If you are missing staff development for any reason, please make sure you have emailed Parkerson and submitted the absence in Frontline (even if it is a campus activity traveling with students).
Welcome New Staff!

Cell Phone Use & BYOD--ADD THIS WORDING TO YOUR SYLLABUS
In the meantime, please add this wording adapted from board policy to your syllabi:
Bring Your Own Device & Cell Phone Use At CSHS
College Station ISD believes that technology should be used to enhance instruction and learning in the school setting. It is an expectation that all technology be used in a manner that supports learning and good citizenship. The use of electronic devices such as Kindles, Nooks, iPads, laptops/notebooks, cell phones, cameras, and similar items may be allowed by an individual teacher for student use during instruction; however, that use will only be for an approved educational purpose and only with the permission of a teacher at appropriate times in the lesson. Electronic devices shall not be visible or activated on campus by students except by permission from the school administrator or classroom teacher. Students may access their devices during passing periods and lunches.
Master Schedule
Your Schedule
Your department chair will notify you regarding your schedule for this year. Remember, we build our schedule around student needs and requests and do our best to accommodate all of our Cougar students and staff within our constraints.
You are now able to see courses/students in Schoology --this information is likely inaccurate and will change. Do not share information with students. If you have a question or concern, please speak with your department chair.
Course Change Requests by Students
In the last few days as students have been returning to school for a variety of activities, they have started to trickle into the counseling office to try to request a class that was not on their original course request. Several kids have said that a teacher has told them to request the change. Please do not encourage students to change course requests at this late date. We are not able to accommodate these changes because we build the number of sections of each class off of course requests, and the deadline to change requests was June 14.Staff Shirts
