TEACH LIKE A CHAMPION TODAY
OUR LAST 8+ WEEKS...TEACH AND BE HAPPY
As role models and mentors, what choices are we making which send the correct message to our students? Are we choosing to do things which make our students better? Are we walking the walk, or just talking the talk? I try to reflect on those quotes which I use daily, and many times I have to remind myself that I am not modeling that which I was preaching earlier in the day. It is very hard to admit it, but there are times my anger, frustration, and lack of wisdom gets the best of me. There are times throughout my day, that upon reflection, I wish I had made a better choice. I try to focus and make sure I don't make that poor choice again in a similar circumstance.
So as we kickoff the final grading period, I would like to give three choices we can make each morning for the next forty-two days (who's counting):
1. BE NICE. If we make the choice to be nice to our students, colleagues, parents, and all whom we come in contact with at Wes-Del our days will be better. It does not cost a thing to be nice. We love when others are nice to us, especially when it comes to customer service! As guest at a restaurant, we are more likely to return if we are treated like a five-star guest. If we are greeted as-soon-as we walk in the door, and if our service is excellent, we are likely to return to that restaurant. If we get that same treatment, while also being treated like family, we become regulars. Be nice, and create regulars in your classroom and in the school community.
2. BE POSITIVE. Our world is filled with negative, and we don't need anymore. Our students have access to far more negatives today than any other generation. The power of social media can be both positive and negative, and the power of technology can be both positive and negative. What our students need is a positive leader in their lives. I believe they should get at minimum seven positive leaders a day. Those leaders are there seven teachers on their schedule. Be positive, and create a positive classroom and school community.
3. BE ENTHUSIASTIC. They complaint with today's students is apathy. Examples of student apathy can be put on display daily, but we have to reflect on ourselves to make sure we are not giving students the easy choice of apathy. We have to ask ourselves these questions. Am I enthusiastic with my students? Am I enthusiastic about my subject matter? Am I enthusiastic about my school? Do I love my job? If you can answer "yes" to those questions, you will remove the choice of apathy within your classroom.
If we can focus on these three choices, we will help to make our last eight weeks the most enjoyable of the year. Remember, students will still make bad choices, and there will be days we will be angry, frustrated, or drained of energy, but we are in control of our classrooms and our choices. Let's make this the best eight weeks at Wes-Del.
